Question about Buick Century

1 Answer

Sometimes my 2001 Buick century stalls when first starting it. It does not accelerate good while going up most hills. I just had the fuel filter replaced. It has been running kind of hot also.

First - when was last "healthy" tune up? Plugs, wires, all fluids and filters? I would start there, it would give you a good ground zero starting point if problem continues.

Oh, I should have put that in. I had a tune up about a month ago. That's when they put in the fuel filter. I have had it to three different mechanics and because it doesn't always do it they can't figure out what the problem is. No check engine light and nothing wrong when they do a diagnostic check. So I'm thinking it can't be the relay or the wiring. It's pretty speratic but happens to me a lot because I'm always driving it. never happens when they are test driving it.

Stop by an Autozone, Advance, etc.. parts store and have them do an OBII scan and have them give you the list of codes they come up with. Alot of shops don't do a complete scan. The scan is FREE.
Another thing to consider, try running a good fuel system cleaner with next tankful of fuel. This time of year fuel tends to accumulate moisture.

What are the signs of a bad fuel filter on a 2001 buick century

Hey Keith, you have all the signs of a blocked/restricted fuel filer. Will also struggle, especially going up hills if there is a missfire. Missfire will usually turn on engine light but sometimes not. If light is on and you have the system scanned it will tell you which cylinder to check. Mis fire codes usually plug, coil, or coil pack. I would try filter first if never changed.

sounds like either a clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump. Filter is cheaper and easier, go with that first

My son filled the tank of his 97 buick century and within 10 miles the car started bogging down (and stalling) on acceleration. The behavior is the same regardles of whether the vehicle is in motion or at...

dirty fuel fiter, yes. But also certain models require mid or premium grade gasoline. regular unleaded has more water in it than premium. Hense the pinging. When was the last time you have your fuel injectors cleaned. Try adding a gas treatment like STP gas treatment/fuel injector cleaner, that should help. If it continues then its the fuel filter or the fuel pump is also going out.

97 buick century sputtering and stalling

He has gotten a bad load of fuel. Try a can of dry gas to emulsify the water, but if there is too much for the dry gas to handle, the tank may have to be cleaned. I would also replace the fuel filter also, the gas may also be dirty enough to restrict the filter.
