Question about 1995 Dodge Intrepid

2 Answers

About 4 months ago the car just stalled while driving after waiting 15-30 min it started up and ran fine for the past few months. It then stalled out again also while driving 30+mph, it acts as if its not getting fuel, studdering and backfire then died, waited 30+ min and it started up but this time it only ran for 20 min or so before repeating the studdering proccess, now it wont start at all ??? Ive checked all the fuses, spark plugs, plug wires, battery connections, all seem to be performing well. ??? could it be the fuel pump? or one of the sensors? Can you give me any advice? Thanks for your time, Cherity Bryant

Check to see if catylitic converter is plugged, usually it will get red hot and you will hear a hissing sound and little exhaust from the tailpipe.

If the map sensor is bad you simply remove the clip and pull it's plug and the vehicle always starts although it will be rough.

A bad or flopping crank sensor if is the type on the crankshaft pulley but most now are on the front of the engine in between the pulleys and inserted into the engine, basically near the crank but are somtimes on the side of the engine. These can be tested for proper ohm readings instead of replacing randomly.

there is a bluetooth and android device available from Ebay and more for 5 to 10 bucks and can tell you your codes, clear them and more for OBDii compliant vehicles which is 1994 and newer I beliieve it is.!.

Every vehicle should have one of these from factory.

I wouldn't do the direct connect for very long as you will damage the pump.

Check the harness from the tank pig-tail back into the body for broken connection especially where it goes into the body.

Sounds like MAP sensor to me or perhaps Crank sensor.

Pull the plug from the MAP sensor and the vehicle will run but rough.

Inspect the crank sensor wires...there is specific ohm readings that should be found from each sensor.;..

Since you were almost out of fuel perhaps you sucked some dirt into the fuel pump but an 08 should not have a rusted tank im thinking.

There is a code reader available at Ebay and other places for $10 roughly and it's called ELM327. Can save you lots and works on most Android and Bluetooth devices.

Good luck and please give us feedback.

Shuts off while driving but starts up

Sounds like it's not getting fuel. Check fuel pressure at the fuel rail. If low, make sure the pump is running. If the pump is running, but no pressure at the rail, check fuel, filter. Get back to us with result of these checks.

2002 Malibu stalls while driving, doesn't over heat. But can start smelling gas fumes before it stalls. usually wait about 5 mins then restarts. in higher elevation runs fine but in lower elevatio

It sounds like the catalytic converter could possibly be almost completely plugged up not allowing the exhaust to leave the engine like it should. It just builds up in the cylinder head and when it gets too much in it built up and there's no where to go, it'll stall the engine. By letting it sit for a few minutes, it gives the exhaust time to find a way out and the car will restart.

Car stalls when driving

Take notes , when this happens.
For instance : engine warm or cold , outside conditions (cold , hot) , car driven for a while , long or short distance when problem occures etc.... , that may help for diagnosis.
It very well may be temperature relaited , sience it has to sit (cool off) for 5 min.
Ignition coils sometime do that.
I'm mechanic shop owner and intermittent problems are the hardest one , so any piece of iformation on above mentioned events may give a clue.
Good luck.
