My husband and I just bought a 2006 500 last weekend. It didn't start 2x's on the lot but we were told it was due to it had been sitting there for a while. They cleaned off the battery cables and jump started it and it started right up but later that same day, didn't start again. They told us that it should charge fine on the 40 mile ride home, which, it did for a few days, however, I felt that it took too long when you turned the key for it to "catch" and start, but it started and ran fine. Then 4 days after buying it, I go to start it after work, wouldn't turn over, just clicked. Someone gave me a jump start and it kicked right over no problem. The dealer told us to bring it in and on our way there, the low battery came on, traction control light came on, ABS light came on and then once there, lost all power. They jump started the car, performed all diagnostic tests and no codes came up as abnormal, they are stumped as it isn't doing this for them. They tested the battery and it is fine. Not sure how this will play out, but, I am thinking alternator or bad connection somewhere. The car only has 16K miles on it! I am just praying they find the problem because we fell in love with this car. Would love to know any thoughts.

You may have this fixed by now BUT.. Along with the tips already posted you may want to load test the starter. What can happen is that when warm it has an excessive amp draw due to insulator failure within. Also check the battery ground at the chassi/block end and posi at starter. It is possible that this is an already known issue that they aren't telling you about and they think they fixed. If they put another starter in you should know that it is not that uncommon for a starter off the shelf to fail rapidly, WITHIN 2 weeks -3 MONTHS, or sooner. This is why I personally have know problem with "junk" parts as they have already passed the test and can last as indefinetly as a Brand knew without the faiulkure rate of replacements. Seriously. The solenoid seems to be fine because you mention the clicking noise is present.

Make sure the alternator belt is as tight as you can get it, when you jump the car the battery wont charge properly, when the lights and the heat are on the belt might cherp thats a good indication

91geo prism had a dead battery, jump started it And the battery light stayed on, so I put a new battery in and will not start but spins over great. Found the 30 amp fuse bad on the positive cable and...

You will need to check all the fuses, the main and inside fuse box. for the amp fuse to blow the jumper cables or battery were installed backwards. check all fuses i think you will find another bad one. as far as the batttery light being on, you may have a bad alternator. the car will run until it drains the new battery. the battery light may still be on once you get car started. have the charging system checked.

Again i think its just a bad fuse, the car was starting fine until the battery replacement.

The last thing is that sometimes they loose the idle memory or get flooded from connecting battery with key on, try to start by controlling the gas. hold gas pedal to floor and try to start engine. asengine starts slowly release gas. if car stalls out when gas pedal is let go then restart and hold gas pedal a little for about 2min then release and let idle, good day.

I have the same problem.... i got a new battery but still with the same problem, only start with a jump cables. There's something on the car that's eating the batttery .. alternator that's what i think too...

there is a way to do a draw test on battery electrical system. heres how. with car off, remove negative battery cable from battery. hook a test light to cable end then other end to battery. after this, hold cable clamp on negative p[ost of battery without breaking test light connection. hold it there for 2 minutes. then remove clamp from battery. do no break test light connection yet. if there is a draw then test light will light up. but before doing this you have to have a charged battery. just jump start and let run for a few minutes. have a good day !!

Car will not start

First of all - check the battery and battery connections. Corroded connections don't transmit power as well as good clean ones.

Second - after cleaning, check voltage (careful) and charge batttery if necessary.

Third, see if engine will start with a jump start - if won't start after cleaning and charging, but will start on a jump, you've got a bad battery or starter motor - take it to a shop and have them diagnose it further.

It might leave you stranded. Because without the alternator. which I think is your problem your battery will run down in a very short time. Even if you had a new battery.Check the belt first as Toyota Ed suggested. If it's good, and not broken. Replace the alternator and if you have to, the battery also. One could affect the other.
