Question about 1987 Jeep Comanche

1 Answer

Hello, I have a 1986 Jeep Comanche, 4 cylinder 4x4 5 speed that i just bought used. The battery is brand new, same with cap rotor wires and the alternator i just bought. the jeep kept draining the battery and it would basically shutdown completly. i put the new alternator on thinking it wasnt charging the battery, but it continued to drain slowly then completely die. im thinking the next option is to replace the voltage regulator. any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you mean it is going dead while sitting you might have a short or another issue drawing power from the battery. take your truck to your local battery warehouse/store the should have a meter thet will tell you if something is drawing on your system. It could be something simple, like maybe the mercury switch on your under hood light is bad and the light is not turning off thus running your battery dead over night.

Check the spring tension on the advance weights in the distributor. May be weak or the pivots may be sticking. Best way to test is with a timing light. See if the timing advances and returns correctly

Help. I can't get the rims off of my 1991 Jeep Comanche. I bought a used set of rims at a junk yard and had a new set of winter tires installed on them , now I can't get the rims off of my tr

The factory aluminum wheels on Jeeps tend to become fused to the rotor and drum surfaces. A lot of can spray rust remover and a lot of tire kicking, after removing all the lug nuts, that will loosen up the bond between the wheel and rotor surface and the wheels will start to come off eventually, lots of kicking, alternating between the top and bottom of the tire.

I have an 88 jeep comanche that has a new battery and new alternator but wont keep charge. What could be the problem and how do I fix this.

IF YOU CHECK FUSE.BATTERY CABLES COULD BE FAULTY IF VERY OLD.THEY CAUSE HIGH RESISTANCE IN CHARGING CIRCUIT.CHECK FOR LOOSE DRIVE BELT.AND CHECK ALTERNATOR WIRING IF BROKEN OR DAMAGE YOU WONT GET CHARGED.AND MOST OF ALL MAKE SURE YOU BOUGHT THE RIGHT AMP ALTERNATOR.

You have spark on the coil wire but not coming from the cap. You replaced the cap right. Did you replace the rotor too. Sometimes the rotor burn in the center and the spark goes right thru it in to the distributor shaft.

Firing order

I sincerely apologize for the late response...Due to the bad economic situation this site has had a substantial (+50%) increase in the number of questions being asked in the last four months.

I am not sure if you have the 2.5L or 4.0L. However I have included both below.

For the 2.5L (4-cylinders):
Firing Order:
1-3-4-2
Cylinders:
4
3
2
1
(front of vehicle)
Distributor:
---------------(+) screw)
-----3
-----------------4

----------2
(+)screw
(front of vehicle)

For the 4.0L (6-cylinders):
Firing Order:
1-5-3-6-3-4
Cylinders:
6
5

Distributor:

Plug wires to distributor rotor

Hello Macstff ;

1985 jaguar xj6 4.2 L Series 3
Firing Order 1-5-3-6-2-4
# 1 Spark plug at the last cylinder next to the firewall .
# 6 Spark plug at the front of th Engine nearest the fan .

The Rotation of the Rotor within the distributor cap is " Counter Clockwise

The Vacuun Advance Diaghram ( metal ) is more in line with the # 3 Spark plug wire .

Looking from the top near the Passenger side fender . If we know that the Number 3 Plug is more inline with the vacuum advance then moving " clockwise the next plug would be the # 5 and after that would be the # 1 plug

This shold get you on your way providing that nothing else has been tampered with . I hope that this has been helpful to you .
