Question about 1989 Ford Ranger
I would say yes.but. the 2.9l that year were most all 4x4. if the trans you have from the 2.9 is a 4x4 trans then its going to have the wrong tail housing on it. but if its not a 4x4 then they should be the same transmission. but you will need to look and compare the two. i cant give a definite answer without seeing them but you shouldnt have a problem bolting it up.
