Clean the area off very well with choke cleaner and seal it with black silicone gasket maker. Have a good night.

Here is the oil leaking Problem Identifying Technique

Engine oil leaks from the valve cover gasket are common.

  • The intake manifold plenum gasket may leak and cause increased oil consumption/burning and a spark knock during acceleration; the gasket should be replaced.
  • External oil leaks from valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets (front or rear), and the rear crankshaft (rear main) seal area are common. The rear main seal is an unlikely source. Normally, the bearing cap mating surfaces (as well as the sealing surface between the oil pan and bearing cap) are the source for the leaks.
  • Engine oil leaks at the distributor can be misdiagnosed as leaks from theintake manifold seal, oil pan gasket, or rear crankshaft (rear main) seal. A revised distributor is available if oil is found inside the distributor.
  • If the oil filter casing shows signs of distortion from excessive oil pressure, theoil pump should be replaced.
  • Often misdiagnosed as a leaking oil filter gasket, the oil filter adapter can seep from between the adapter and engine block.
  • Carbon buildup on the top of the piston is common. As the buildup increases with mileage and over time, symptoms may vary from light ticking, to ticking/hammering, to hammering/knocking noises. Fuel injector cleaner often solves the problem.

    severe oil leaks would be front timing cover crankshaft seal and the rear main seal or leak at oil pump at front timing cover oil leaks can come from damaged oil filter seal or damaged oil pressure sending unit.slow oil leaks oil pan gasket the valve cover gasket leaks you will see and smell smoke from under engine compartment which could be a fire hazard.

    oil leaks can come from many things.like front timing cover crankshaft seal, rear main oil seal,with engine running look under car around oil pan area check see if you see heavy oil leak which will come from loose or damage oil filter and seal or check oil pressure sending unit at bottom right rear engine block or right rear corner of the oil pump.if oil leak small leak the front crankshaft seal and rear main seal leaking .

    Hi, sounds like your timing chain may have slipped a tooth. Unfortunately, with a pushrod engine, you have to take the front off the engine to check valve timing. Timing gear marks should align as shown below. If they don't, replace the chain.

    CAUTION Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.

    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the engine cooling system.
    2. Remove the crankshaft pulley and damper.



    WARNING The outer ring (weight) of the torsional damper is bonded to the hub with rubber. The damper must be removed with a puller which acts on the inner hub only. Pulling on the outer portion of the damper will break the rubber bond or destroy the tuning of the unit.

    1. Remove the water pump assembly.
    2. Loosen the oil pan.
    3. If applicable, remove the crankshaft position sensor.
    4. Remove the front cover bolts and, if equipped, the reinforcements, then remove the front cover from the engine.
    5. Pry the seal out of the front cover using a small prytool. Be very careful not to distort the front cover or to score the end of the crankshaft.

    To install:
    On 1995-99 models, anytime the front cover is removed, the cover must be replaced upon reassembly. If you reuse the old cover, oil leaks may develop.
    1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces of the engine and cover of all remaining gasket or sealer material. Be careful not to score or damage the surfaces.

    The manufacturer suggests you wait until the front cover is mounted to the engine before you install the replacement crankshaft oil seal. This assures the cover is properly supported.
    1. Position a new front cover gasket to the engine or cover using gasket cement to hold it in position. Lubricate the front of the oil pan seal with engine oil to aid in reassembly.
    2. Install the front cover to the engine. Take care while engaging the front of the oil pan seal with the bottom of the cover. On 1998-99 models, apply sealer 12346141, or an equivalent sealant to the oil pan rail where it contacts the timing cover-to-block joint (front) and the crankshaft rear seal retainer-to-block joint (rear). Continue the bead of sealant about 1 in. (25mm) in both directions from each of the four corners.
    3. Install front cover retaining bolts and tighten to 124 inch lbs. (14 Nm) on 1994-95 models and 106 inch. lbs. (12 Nm) on 1996-99 models.
    4. Lightly coat the lips of the replacement crankshaft seal with clean engine oil, then position the seal with the open end facing inward the engine. Use a suitable seal installation driver to position the seal in the front cover.
    5. If removed, install a new crankshaft position sensor O-ring, then install the sensor.
    6. Secure the oil pan.
    7. Install the water pump.
    8. Install the crankshaft damper and pulley.
    9. Connect the negative battery cable, then properly refill the engine cooling system.
    10. Run the engine until normal operating temperature has been reached, then check for leaks.

    Need to remove external oil pump on a 95 ford tauras 3.8 v6.what all is involved doing this??

    Removal


    1. If necessary, remove oil bypass filter (oil filter).
    2. Remove oil pump and filter body to engine front cover retaining bolts and remove oil pump and filter body from engine front cover.
    3. Inspect oil pump body seal (6C639), oil pump and filter body and engine front cover for distortion and wear. Replace components as necessary.
    Installation

    1. Position oil pump and filter body on engine front cover and install retaining bolts.
    2. Tighten the small engine front cover retaining bolts to 8-11 Nm (71-97 lb-in) . Tighten the large retaining bolts to 23-32 Nm (17-23 lb-in) .
    3. If removed, reinstall oil bypass filter (oil filter).

    I dont know where the oil pump is on my 89 toyota


    On a 22RE the oil pump is on the timing cover behind the crank pulley/harmonic balancer,it has the crank timing pointer built onto it,generally they don't leak around the pump seal but as Monster80 pointed out they leak from the front main seal wich is installed on the front of the oil pump,pretty common for the 22R/RE to leak around the timing cover gaskets or out the bolt holes on the timing cover also,usually due to uneven tourqe on the bolts,to check the front main seal you need to look at the the crank from the underside right after you've shut the motor down,if the seals bad you'll see oil starting to form a drop on the backside of the pulley or the front of the oil pump housing.

    Honda mechanics state that my 1992 Acura Legend Coupe is leaking oil and coolant from under the front timing cover and I should bring it to an Acura dealer. What is the most likely problem?


    your water pump is leaking and most likely you had a small oil leak under there also and now the coolant is washing it out, don't go too long with these leaks because your timing belt is under there and is getting soaked with oil and and coolant this will break or slip off causing major engine damage to result (i.e bent valves) good luck and please rate -jeff

    hi if your engine 22R front engine first in side timing cover where engine bully fitted there is oil seal, next valve cover front side between cover and head there seal not like oil seal half cercle shap it makes leak also front side of the camshaft there is oil seal..
