Question about Ford Five Hundred

1 Answer

I read that you know about the Ford Five Hundred CVT. When climbing an incline or pressing the Set + on for the Cr Cnt, the engine revs up to 4000 rpms but the speed does not increase and the engine stays at that rpm until I tap the brake or Cncl the cruise. What is happening, how do I fix it?

My mom has a freestyle with the same motor and transmission. hers will do that too at certain speeds. at 45 the cruise works fine but at 60 it wants to rev up and stay there. im not completely sure if this is really a problem or if the cvt just naturally does this. hope this helps you

Why wont my 2006 ford five hundred cvt move when placed into any gear. transmission fluid is good as well as any linkage to the transmission. this has to be something in the inside of the transmission

run the fault codes and look for a torque converter clutch servo/solenoid problem or a TCM fault Go to an accredited transmission specialist shop

I suggest check the easy things first. Vacuum lines, could cause a lean condition, fuel filter restricting the fuel flow lean condition. Carefully clean throttle body with proper cleaner. I'm a shade tree mechanic but these simple things work sometimes. You didn't mention if you have the cvt trans. If you do and you are going 75 80 on the highway coming to a hill will cause it to race that high. Then when the hill is crested it will slow down, I don't like it either but it is the nature of the beast. I often cancel the cruise on big hills on the highway so it doesn't do that.

Can I change the filter and fluid in my 2006 ford 500 myself and what atf fluid should i use? Thanks

You have a CVT transmission. It is a specific CVT fluid that is green. You really shouldn't so it yourself, because the filt plug is under the battery and it is extremely small, too small for a standard funnel.

I work at a Ford dealer and we have seen very little trouble with this trans-axle. We replaced a mectronics unit in one and replaced one complete assembly, other then that we have had no trouble with them and personally would have no fear of buying one.
