There are a few possible problems. starting with the least costly would be an oil pump needing to be replaced. if your oil pump isnt bad then its a large leak somewhere in your engine usually caused by bearing failure requiring an overhaul or replacement of the engine. you say the oil drops? to what pressure?

Have a 2007 Envoy the oil pressure gauge drops when either driving uphill or stopped on an incline. What's wrong?

Dear Heather,
Here is what might be wrong.
1) You do not have enough oil in the engine, and the oil pump has quit pumping the oil when the level of the oil is not reaching the pick-up screen.
2) The pick-up screen is clogged with dirt or sediment, and not allowing the oil to get to the pump due to being plugged up.
3) The oil pump is failing due to an internal problem, such as being mis-cast from the factory.
In any regard, this problem is most serious, and can result in the engine "blowing-up", so please do not drive it until it is fixed.
God bless your efforts.
P.S.
If your mechanic says you do not have a problem, have him or her install an oil pressure test gauge to the screw-in port on the engine, and read the real pressure whilst driving it.

Gage showing no oil pressure at low rpm

Old oil can do that as it gets too thin, filter blocked.
Wrong grade of oil can also cause that or worn pump/bearings.

I got in my 2001 Expedition, started it up and the oil pressure light came on. The guage was down to 0. I stopped it and started it again. The guage press. went up and then slowly dropped at first and...

oil pump gears inside the lower engine, or electrical. 1st make sure its full on oil, then sheck it with another pressure guage to confirm its not actuall pressure.

Dropping oil pressure

You need to put a mechanical gauge on it to read actual oil pressure, sometimes the sensor is wrong, have seen the gauge be off (even on newer than yours). The first thing anyone would do is the mechanical pressure test with a screw in oil pressure gauge. That would be my advise.

Come to stop 99 Ram oil pressure drops to 0 check gauges light.

Change the oil! The 318Cu in V8 (5.2 liter) engine has a problem with sludge build up on the oil pump pickup tube screen. This engine requires oil changes at or before 3500 miles with a high detergent oil.

My oil pressure gage just drops to 0!!!

You need to replace the oil pressure sending unit, this is what tells your gauge what the pressure is. For future information if your oil pressure drops again and its a real failed oil pump within a few minutes you will internally damage the engine. I would get a new Oil Pressure Sending Unit. Let me know if you have any questions.... Thanks!

2002 jeep wrangler oil pressure gauge drops

When the gauge is at 0, is there any noise from the engine (tick, knock etc?) I would have someone put a mechanical gauge on there and read true pressure.Your driving pressure seems OK but if the low number is "real" something is wrong!
