You could have a piece of carbon stuck in the pintle of the electronic EGR valve. Remove the valve (2 10mm bolts hold it on. turn it over and you should see the pintle sticking out, push it in and out a couple times and clean it out with choke cleaner spray that should help you problem. Have a good night.

have you changed the fuel filter and emptied the gas tank and put fresh gas in? Stale gas will not start as well as fresh gas and there could be water from condensation in the tank.

Got a 1996 serria 1/2 ton. I changed the plugs and plug wires, they have spark. I put in new fuel filter, and I also checked to see if the plugs for spark, which they do. It will crank but wont start. What...

check your fuel pressure if it has the 5.0 or the 5.7 the fuel pressure should be 60-66 psi.The fuel injectors on these motors need at least 52 psi before it can open the popet valve inside the injector to allow fuel thru.So if you have anything less than 52psi you will need to replace the fuel pump.

My gmc safari wont start. I was driving and it lost all power. would not start back up. replaced fuel filter and spark wires.

remove a plug wire. install a plug . lay it on the intake and have someone crank it while watching for spark. no spark. turn key on see if your fuel pump comes on . you should hear it. If not you could have one of two things bad.Ignition module which is inside dist or crank sensor by the crankshaft pulley. hope this helps. you can have the module tested at oreillys or auto zone.

Start with fuel system. Listen for fuel pump humm at fuel tank No humm check wiring to pump for power. Then check for spark at plugs and wires. Remove wire from coil and hold near engine and see arch when you crank. No arch. Replace ignition Modular inside distributor cap or cap or rotor

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 1999 GMC YUKON WITH THE 5.7 ENGINE HAVING TO JUMP START ALL THE TIME TO GET IT RUNNING, THE PROBLEM WITH MINE WAS THE FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED, EVEN WHEN I REMOVED THE PUMP AND TURNED THE KEY FUEL PUMPED OUT BUT WAS NOT ENOUGH PRESSURE TO GET AND KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING.I ALSO TRIED STARTER FLUID, THE ENGINE WOULD RUN UNTIL THE FLUID BURNED OFF.SO THE SOLUTION FOR MY TRUCK WAS THE FUEL PUMP AND NOW ITS STARTING LIKE A CHAMP

1998 gmc 4.3 starts up but loses power 3-5 mins later, will restart and run again for another short time, fuel filter has just been replaced.

Install a pressure gauge, start and run 3-5 minutes and watch the pressure. You should see the pressure maintain as it did when first started. If it begins to drop, the fuel pump has gotten weak and is starting to fail.
Let me know what you find.
Regards.
