I suggest that you call a few auto repair shops and also a suspension pro shop and compare the labour charge in replacing your shocks. If it`s only the shocks you want to replace, keep in mind that a hoist-lift, impact-gun, and a heating/cutting torch will be required to preform this task. To replace shocks is not to expensive, it`s fairly priced and will save you the fustration of doing this yourself. Shop and compare, you will thank me later..

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee that when running 45mph shakes like crazy.I have replaced the track bar, axls and everything in between and still no improvement what else could it be

Have you checked/replaced the ball joints? That usually will fix the problem but there are other causes as well. If the track bar mount hole is oblong that can cause a problem as can wheels that are not torqued to specifications. In extreme cases, adding some positive caster over factory alignment specs can also help.
The steering damper (sideways shock attached to steering linkage) is often blamed for shake but it gets damaged by the shaking and is not the cause) check that and replace if needed AFTER you have fixed the problem.

The trunk door of our Jeep Cherokee Sport (1999 I think) won't stay open ie. the hydraulicy things on the side don't hold the door up--it just drops down and slams shut.

The "hydraulic thingys" are called trunk shocks. they are available at any local parts store - they are vehicle specific, they will have to look up your part number. they are very easy to change, either a simple locking tab at each end of the shock, or a bolt at each end. this is a two person job, someone will need to hold the hatch up while someone changes the shocks. good luck!

1999 jeep cherokee shakes at 55. Mechanic looked at everything, can't find anything wrong. Tires and rims are balanced. Control arm bushings are dry and cracked but still tight. Suggestions?

Have a very close look at the steering stabilizer.
If the oil has leaked out or the valve inside it is defective it allows your steering system to vibrate.
Install a quality heavy duty one if you decide to replace it.

It depends if your jeep is lifted or stock, and what kind of performance you want. Check . They have a great suspension and lift kit advisor that will help. In general, Old Man Emu, Teraflex, Rancho.

How to remove the top bolts from the rear shocks

bolts should be easily removed after breaking them loose. If someone replaced them and used nuts on the backside, it may present a problem & require cutting the heads off. Sometimes you can snake a distributor wrench above to grab nut but on most jeeps this is difficult because there isn't enough clearance. Really soak them down with good solvent at least twice several hours before attempting to remove.
