Question about 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Heater on 2004 1500 ram works fine but vent control does not work. Does it operate on vacumn or electric motor and how do you get to the problem?

I think you are correct , the audio store must of knocked off a vacuum line or a plug at the heating controls, this being a 1998 and conversion it may have some vacuum operated components and some electrically operated actutor motors that control the doors for the heat and the selector. i would start off by looking at the controls to see if everything is connected good,i think you will find something they broke or left off. the radio was replaced then i would have them remove it and double check there work,let me see if i can find a diagram for you, okay heres how it goes, the blend door which controls the hot or cold air is electrically controled with an actuator motor, the selector control to send air to the defrost or vents or floor is controlled by vacuum, theres an 8 port vacuum switch on the heater control that operates the selection, the vacuum line is brkoen or they broke or left off the 8port plug that sends vacuum to operate the valves to control the flow of the air. theres a main vacuum line that runs from the intake manifold in the engine compartment and this line goes in on the pass/side into the passenger compartment and then up the dash to the controls , i would start at the controls and make sure theres vacuum to the control and the 8port plug is plugged in, also check the engine to make sure the main vacuum line is connected, you would hear a hissing noise if removed, also start the engine with heater fan off and listen closely for a hissing inside the dash area by controls, if you hear this then it would mean theres a vaucuum line loose or off, good luck hope this helps. heres a diagram of the vacuum lines for the heater control.johnjohn2_61.gif

What can be the problem if the windows wont roll down and the ac/vents/heater don't work

The window could be anything from a switch to a motor or the cables ,also the wires from teh door to the body,It would need testing to locate the fault ,now the demist on this vehicle is controlled by a vacumn pipe which runs from the firewall to the switch then to the relevant operating merchanisms .could just be one of the plastic /rubbery ends has perished or the operating device has a hole in the diaphramn .

I've replaced the thermostat,raditor and water pump and I still can't get the heater to blow warm air what else can be wrong??

you may have a blocked heater core. you can try flushing cooling system if that doesnt work replace heater core.

Heater and Air conditioner work bur air flows from window vents only. Can't change direction of air flow to different vents.

There may be a couple of items to look at here.... but the most common problem is a source of vacumn to the pneumatic operation of the heat/a/c vent doors....if vacumn is not distributed properly to the vents you command it is assumed that there is either no vacumn to the selector swith panel(broken vac. line,kinked vac. line, defective in dash a/c control panel) or under the hood a defective vac./heater control valve that is stuck,frozen, not allowing the vacumn to pass through it to supply the indash pneumatic controls and/or panel.
Most vacumn systems that i have ever came in contact with incorporate a vacumn supply tank(nothing more then a round plastic vac. resevoir) which is used in sequence with the a/c heater controls, its purpose is to keep an even vacumn supply to all command points continously while the vehicle is being driven, without this supply one will experience the a/c coming from various different non selected dash vents upon acceleration, this is a direct relation to the tank either being defective(leaking vacumn) or its supply hose(usually vey tiny rubber/plastic tubes) being pinched or broken not allowing the vacumn to the supply tank.
listen for vacumn leaks(hissing sound), look for the obvious...broken vacumn lines or hoses, also check for a defective one way vacumn valve on some pneumatic controlled door vent systems(these valves are inserted in a vacumn line one side being the ""in" port and the other side of it being the "out" flow port,typically if these dont work the vents will also devert your a/c or heat all different ways through your dash.
to check these valves, simply remove from the vacumn hose, and apply vacumn to one side,if vacumn flows through the valve, apply the same vacumn to the opposite side of the plastic valve, if vacumn flows through on the opposite side the valve is bad, it should only allow flow from one side not the other. These valves are small and are usually white or black plastic and look like the old vacumn dash pots used on the old carbureated engines only smaller with one small hose in and one small hose out.

You have vacumn lines the run to your transfer case and then to the vacumn motor on the front axle. you need to check the lines and connections. If vacumn is working fine, then motor on front axle is bad.

My 2002 Avalanche 1500 4WD is not blowing hot air from the heater. The heater hoses are hot but I am only getting cool air. What should I check to see what the problem is?

Gas. Haven't dropped any pencils down the defroster vents have you? Sounds like a mixing door in the heat/ac box is not moving. Could be the motor to the door or a lack of vacumn to the controls. Make sure your canister under the hood is hooked up(probably is since you did not mention having defrost air only). If it has a cable instead of vacumn control for temp, verify it is connected and operating properly. TJ

My 2000 s10 chev does not blow hot air on heat.the heater core is clean.the ac works fine.when you move heater control to heat just luke warm air comes out with temp at 195
