If this is the first occurrence then have them clear it, might have been a random event. If not then inspect the plug and wire. Possible switch them with another to see if it is just that or other issue with that cylinder.

Like Cheezycow, when this happens I usually move the plug in the bad cylider to the one next to it and if it has cops (coil on plug) I will move the coil to a another different cylinder clear the codes and wait for the check engine light to reappear. If the misfire stays in the same cylinder it could be a fuel injector or valve issue. If it moves to the cylinder you moved the plug to then the plug is bad if it moves to the cylinder you put the coil on then the coil is the problem. It is quite possible that the light will not come back after moving stuff. I have had a few engines that just didnt like a coil /plug combination and worked fine when they were mixed up.

I have a 1998 ford expedition and the other day I took it to auto zone because the check engine light turned on. The trouble shooting said that it had cylinder misfire detected. does anybody what caused...

A cylinder misfire means that the fuel / air mixture is not completely igniting / burning -- this could be an intermittent misfire or a misfire on each revolution of the engine.

There are many possible causes for this, among them ::

- bad plug wires
- malfunctioning coil
- fouled spark plug
- clogged fuel injector
- burned valves
- malfunctioning valve lifters
- etc., etc...

I believe this addresses your question -- if not, pls let me know.

Engine light just came on took to auto zone they gave me this code PO304 Trying to see what it is

A P0304 OBD2 code is "cylinder #4 misfire detected". The first place to start is your spark plugs. 1. Check condition and for wear. 2. check the spark plug wires or coil packs(depending on which you have).

The light may have to be turned off with a scan tool. A misfire can happen once or twice and then vanish - maybe a single bad fuel pulse into the cylinder caused it. If it happens consistently then you'll need to look at it. For now though, have the light turned off and don't sweat it.

yes i would change the plug wires , you can take a spray bottal with water and spray that wire, and if it starts to run real bad then it is shorting out, you may also have a injector going bad you can test this buy puting a ohms meter on it and ck the ohms it should read the same or close to the same as the other if not it will need replaced
