What?! Really! The noise goes when the clutch pedal is depressed! So the noise goes when the release bearing (throw-out bearing) is engage? So how would that be a release bearing/clutch problem? If it didn't make a noise until the clutch pedal was depressed, it would be the release bearing! In other words its the input shaft bearing and/or counter shaft bearing in the gearbox. What you have is either a bad pilot bearing,or a throw-out bearing. I would recommend that you replace all of the components of the clutch, including the pressure plate, clutch, throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, and the slave cylinder. This can be an extensive job, that is labor intense, so if this is not a thing that you are proficient in, I would recommend that you take it to a shop to have it done.

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi lancer es Manuel when I shift from 1st -2nd gear it tends to grind I have stage 1 clutch...could it be cuz I'm not pressing clutch in to far?..the problem goes away when I let go...

if clutch is good, it could be that slave cylinder needs to be bled so that it has more pressure behind it when pedal is pressed, or could be syncros are wearing out, making it harder to get into gear.

Metal grinding noise from gearbox

Pull the gear box drain plug and check for heavy metal stuck to the magnet. I suspect that the clutch in-put shaft bearing has failed. If so you will have to have the gear box rebuilt as the metal will have affected the other bearings

Hi. I have nissan almera 1996, 1.4 manual. I am getting some grinding sound when I move in 1st and 2nd gear, and a little bit when the car is stationary but switch on. The sound disappears when I press...

sounds like your thought out bearing is making noise which is not that big a deal right now and the second thing is that it sounds like you aalso have a synquinizer that is going bad. In this case you would need to have the trans rebuilt to fix problem or chance a used one.

My car is a 94 325i manual. it goes into gears much better when it's off but when it's on it will not shift into gears and if i force it i hear a horrible grinding noise.

you have 2 choices either the clutch is not disengageing properly or the gearbox is shot.put the car in first, put the clutch pedal down, then start the car and if its trying to pull away before you take you foot of the clutch you have you answer....if its the clutch cable you can adjust it..

Noise from gearbox/clutch when engine running . When the clutch is fully depressed the noise goes but returns when the clutch is released to bite point.

This is more than likely an input cluster bearing beginning to fail. It could also be a sign that the gearbox is simply out of oil. Check oil level & if it is ok it is more than likely the input cluster bearing in the gearbox. Low oil is usually accompanied by gear noise which is usually more noticeable in 1st, 2nd & reverse. Input cluster noise is much less noticeable when in gear due to load on input shaft.

VW GOLF 1.4 1999 S. Gearbox makes whining sound at idle. once clutch is pressed sound goes. car drives fine with no noise in 1st-4th gears. unable to select 5th gear.. just grinds and wont engage. VW Golf...

No good news on this one I think
Your whining sound problem is the Layshaft bearings in the gearbox are badly worn. It also seems that the baulk rings are damaged on 5th gear.

Grinding sound on pressing clutch in at high revs

The grinding sound may be a throw out bearing or the pilot bearing. The sticking throttle problem sounds like a linkage or cable binding up from possibly damage due to the impact from the accident.

Hi fathercuda, This grinding noise you have is it consistant through 1-3 in other words is it just when it goes into gear or all the way through to your next shift? also when in neutral do you hear it and if so when you push on the clutch does it stop? This could be a throw out bearing or sincro mesh problem, I am leaning towards the throw out bearing, not a hard fix but a bit of work involved please get back to me with the requested information and see if we can resolve this issue for you good luck
