Robertphi50 - been there... etc. etc. too many asc 'certified' mechanics still do not know how to troubleshoot problems. If it's not in the book, it doesn't get fixed. My nephew listened to my problem then did what no one else did. He removed the throttle body cover and the butterfly valve was gunked up. Some brake cleaning spray and 5 minutes later, done. Fixed. now more than 2 months with no problems. Imagine that a $5.00 fix and it could have been solved sooner and cheaper if only dealerships didn't work so hard for profits at the expense of doing the right thing.

There is a idle sensor on front of plenum about 3 inches long and cylinder shaped, Good thing to do is go to a parts store and have em look up your engine and see what else controls the idle besides that one I know there is another one because I had the same problem on a ford truck after replaceing these to sensors it ran perfect.Better yet if you want a print out and more knowlege that a parts store,,Go to your local Ford dealship that has a parts counter just to find out exactly where these sensors are located, and there are ford mechanics walking around everywhere. I get alot of good info from this type of parts counter,,,,,,,go figure they only work on fords,,,,There parts are high but you dont have to buy there Auto zone is cheaper but the ford parts are a better quality , so if you can afford there prices buy there .I know for a fact that is your problem.

2006 ford taurus sel bogs down under acceleration, have replaced fuel filter and fuel pressure sensor

Locate the mass air flow sensor. It will be located on top of the hose coming from your air filter. Walmart sells the cleaner. You could go to Autozone (if check engine light is on) to see if the code is indicating such. Watch this video carefully and follow the instructions. This fixed my daughter's Corolla and should be cleaned periodically.

My air conditioner will only blow out of the defroster and not my front vents on 2002 ford taurus any suggestions

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak to the control head. When you lose vacuum the airflow defaults to defrost. Check the vacuum hoses coming into the car on the passenger side under the dash. Supply vacuum is the black tube. There are five colors. Blue, red, yellow, white, and black.

2002 Ford Taurus runs horrible sometimes....when it's running bad the air do I find it if it is a vacuum leak?

The age of your vehicle also guarantee's a vacuum leak. It may sound silly but the truth is rubber grommets, and hose's shrink and dry out over time and the harsh environment under the hood makes it worse. Check all vacuum lines and fittings attached to the intake manifold, valve covers (pcv valve), and be sure to check for a vacuum fitting on top of the intake just behind the throttle body. Does it fit tight in the hole? You can seal loose fittings with a high-temp RTV (Red) silicone sealant/adhesive. Several small leaks add up and your engine, heat/AC, and transmission will be all to glad to tell you about it.

2004 ford taurus ses 3.0 pretty sure th.e fuel pressure regulator is bad but don't know if it's in tank or on fuel rail. Have to turn key couple times to fully prime pressure and car runs at...

The fuel pressure regulator is on the fuel rail..But it sounds like to me like a stuck idle air control or a vacuum leak..Look carefully at all the vacuum lines and make sure they are not broke or crimped..If it stuck idling high you can tap on the valve and the idle will come down

My taurus is idling really low and almost stalling

First of all it really could be a bunch of things. What I would do is start narrowing down what the problem could be 1 by 1. I have 2 taurus's 2000 and 2001 I had the low idling problem in my 2000 I found a small crack in one of the vacuum lines. I replaced it and problem vent away. But like I said it could be a number of things. I would start the car and open the hood and listen for hissing of a vacuum line first. If you have a stethoscope they work the best to help find small leaks. If that isn't the problem I would next check to see if the pcv is clogged... Check to see if the air filter is dirty... check spark plugs and check spark plug wires.. Try these and see if this help but in my opinion it is mostly a vacuum leak in one of the vacuum lines or a vacuum leak at the intake manifold

2003 ford taurus idle problems had trouble codes

A code P0174 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
  • There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor. and your solutions are.
    • In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner . Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
    • Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
    • Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

I have a 1995 ford taurus engine stalls when idling and smells of gas when accelerating it bucks. Changed fuel filter, could it be mass air flow sensor?

Start with smaller problems and check the fuel pressure regulator, the mass air flow sensor for these vehicles is pretty pricy. Is the check engine light on? If so, head to your nearest auto zone and have them check for trouble codes. If the check engine light isn't on, its not likely your mass air flow sensor
