Try pushing down on the hood while someone pulls the hood release to se if you can get it to pop. If so, lube the hood release with grease where the hood latch joins the front crossmember in front of the radiator.

Hi Robert, I have a 2003 2L JTS Spider which has a brake fluid reservoir in the engine compartment against the bulkhead and the other is for the hood mechanism and is at the back of the car. Access to it is from the luggage compartment behind the seats, after removing the moulded carpet inside it. This also gives access to all the hood mechanism. It also helps if the carpet lining the the hood stowage area is lifted up. THere are also 2 switches covered by a black plastic moulding about 40cms square which operate the hood fibreglass cover and the locking pins for the rear of the hood. THe one nearest the door is for the cover. The hydraulic oil to use is Tutela GI/R and is different to normal hydraulic oils. I have a leak on one of the hood struts so I open and close the hood mechanically using the 2 swiitches and a bit of muscle. I got the Tutela GI/R from Mille Miglia Motor. It was quite expensive at $55 a litre. There is quite a bit of info on the Alfa Romeo forums about hoods. Hope this helps. Brian.
