Your car requires a minimum of 91 octane gasoline. If you use a lower grade fuel, it can cause a condition called detonation (sometimes called engine knock) this will cause serious engine damage.

If it has the 4.6 liter V-8 premium fuel is recommended as the compression ratio is high on that engine and low octane fuel can cause the engine to knock and also run poorly affecting the fuel mileage.

How do I change the timing so I can use different grade of gas and not get the knocking?

NOT SURE WHY SOMEONE TOLD YOU THIS? BUT YOU HAVE A RANGE FOR YOUR TIMING HAVE TO CHECK SPECS BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GASOLINE GRADE YOUR HEARING KNOCKING YOUR VALVES COULD BE GETTING SMUDGED AND GUNKED UP I RECOMMEND CHANGING OIL RUNNING A BOTTLE OF LUCAS OIL STABILIZER WITH OIL REPLACES ONE QUART ALSO LUCAS FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER 3OZ TO EVERY TEN GALLONS OF GAS YOU CAN DO THIS WITH 87 GRADE KEEP TIRES INFLATED PROPERLY FRONT END ALIGNMENT PROPER OIL THESE ARE ALL FUEL SAVING TECHNIQUES THAT WORK!

How big is the gas tank on a 1992 ford crown vic. how many miles to the gallon. my gas gauge doesnt work. so i dont know anything about the gas.

1992 Ford Crown Vic 4.6 L V8 Automatic

Fuel tank capacity is 20 gallons (US).

Your fuel consumption will be affected by many factors, such as :
- how you drive the vehicle
- the condition and tune of the motor
- driving conditions (traffic, city use, highway use etc)
- tire pressures
- type and grade of fuel used .

It is impossible for me to estimate what fuel consumption you can expect from your own particular car without a whole lot of information.

It's unwise to run the vehicle for long with no working fuel gauge.

I have a 4.0 ltr Range Rover V8. What octane level would be the best to use. Norm Julian. projectp76@hotmail.com

because most modern cars have an inbuilt computer,if you use high octane fuel, the engine will adjust accordingly,to check on fuel consumption ,which should be less with high grade, fill tank at least five times to work out your averages.if better, then you have proved my theory....

What grade gas should be used ?

You should always use premium fuel on the high conmpression V8 engine. Cheaper fuel can cause a PING, and possible engine damage. 87 octane is definitely not recommended at any time, but sometimes you can get by with 89 for a small period of time.

Gas mileage and power will both be down with lower octane fuel, so do not use it all the time.

What is the reccommended fuel type for the '03 4runner with the V8 2wd

HI. you will need to use a mid grade unleaded(non ethanol based) fuel. Premium is recommended, but mid grade(plus) is the second option as well.
