Starter on TRX400FA will not disengage.....have to disconnect battery terminal to make starter stop spinning

The starter drive is damaged or the flywheel is severely damaged, pull the starter and rotate the engine, if all teeth are ok then likely the starter is the problem.

1995 Taurus. Starter will not disengage. Engine cranks, but will not turn over.

Find the starter relay under the hood. It may be bad and stuck so power continues going to the starter. Try a new relay Or try pulling off the small signal wire on the relay (it is from the switch), and hook battery up. If starter continues to run, the relay is bad. If starter is stopped, put the signal wire back on relay. If starter now starts operating, and key is still off, then switch may be bad .Location of relay may be at left front fender apron, in front of shock tower (like on earlier taurus models).

My starter still will not disengage on my 98 dodge caravan even when the key is turn in the off position. have to remove the battery cable in order to get it to stop turning over the motor

So, what did you find when you checked the starter relay? Either the relay has the contacts stuck closed or the wire between the relay and the starter is shorted to battery voltage. If it stops cranking when you pull the relay out, then the relay is at fault.

88F250 4x4 5.8L FI 5 speed. A friend has this & the starter went out. I replaced it & the solenoid. No big deal right? I returned it & the next day he called me & told me that the...

Its a solenoid...it engages the bendix and truck starts...bendix should retract because power to it gets shut off by ignition switch going to "run".

Only way bendix would stay engaged or get a signal to keep turning ???
Bad contacts in ignition switch...maybe ??
Start relay in under hood power distribution panel has hot or welded contacts ?

I've gotta think about this one...hope this gives some help...

The starter does not disengage and tries to start with the key out of the ignition

Replace the starter solenoid on the fender. Follow the positive cable from the battery and where it stops is the solenoid. 2 screws, 2 cables and the front wire will simply pull off. Just to be sure, remove the front cable first to see if it stops. If it does we are dealing possibly with a bum ignition switch. If it continues, the solenoid (starter solenoid) has welded itself together internally. They run about $20. Good news right?! Let me know if you need anything else.

How do I install a starter on a 2001 dodge caravan starter?

Lift up the front of your car. Disconnect the (+) cable of the battery. The starter is located in front under vehicle with cylindrical shape. Remove the cable of the starter and solenoid. Remove two bolts that secure starter to engine. Pull the starter to disengage the pinion from the fly wheel.

I had a similar problem with a Previa. It occurred when starting the engine. Turns out the starter would not disengage from the fly wheel. I believe that the starter was the source of the high frequency noise. Had to disconnect the battery cable to stop the starter. Replaced the starter and everything was fine.
Good luck.

Starter will not disengage - possible ignition problem

Also your ignition switch could be sticking in the start position. common problem. If it stops when you put the car in drive or reverse gears then its something with your ignition switch.

Starter won't disengage

You have a defective start, no 2 ways about it, and it may be hung up, which means there is no way that you will be able to start it or to disengage the starter. It will have to be towed, and as it is, the tow company can tow it.
