I have an 04 F-150 with basically the same problem. I replaced the TPS and it didn't fix the problem. Still goes dead at idle. Runs great under power but won't idle. Just replaced the throttle body today. Same problem. Making me crazy. HELP???

I intend to clean my iac, same symptoms and a good friend of the family who is a reputable mechanic says no need to replace jus clean out the carbon build up with some throttle body cleaner.

OK! my truck showed same symtoms! Had the trouble code read at local parts house, code came up as idle air valve ( made sense, goes dead at idle, ok) ordered part, picked up part( $100). Opened hood ,THIS PART DOES NOT EXIST ON MY ENGINE! looked everwhere. Go talk to the boys at my parts store ( we all know each other and they take pride in their work) I told them my delima , they offer blank stares ( I am driving my daughters car so they cant look for themselves). Back to the shop to ponder, hummmmmm. For some reason I decide to inspect the Throttle Position Sensor ( TPS ) dont see a problem, but hey, how can you tell now days, went to get a new one. The guys plug part in database, get #, Get part, wrong Part. mine is different. mine has FOUR PINS theres has THREE. We check these same parts for a 2005 F 150 ( guys are good ) turns out there is NO idle air valve on the 05 and the TPS has four pins not three, bought the 05 TPS( witch matched mine) installed, truck back to normal. For some reason my 2004 truck has a 2005 engine! HOW BOUT THAT!!!!

I read this post today. I had the same exact issue. I have the 2004 F150 XLT Triton 4.6. They gave me the code for the IAC. I bought the part and then could not find it. I took off the throttle body and cleaned it. took the TPS up to the store. My part matched the 2005 5.4 motor. It works great now.

Does you f 150 have electronic throttle control ? An does it have Variable Cam Timing (VCT) - if it does have Variable Cam Timing (VCT) it doesn't have an EGR valve ! What type scan tool did you use to pull the code with ? My FORD factory service information does not show that code for A 2004 F - 150 5.4 L 3 valve engine !

Locking to replace my idle air control motor but can't find it on my 2006 ford f150

2004 + MY trucks no longer have an IAC. The throttle by wire replaced the need for this.

What is wrong with the truck that you are looking to replace the IAC .

My 2004 Ford F-150 won't stay running, it stalls out when i stop and i have to keep the gas peddle depressed to keep the rpm's up at around 1000. AutoZone tells me it's the IAC VALVE

It could be the IAC or the TPS (Throttle position sensor)
If you have a Chilton or Haynes manual it should tell you how to test them before you buy.

Need to know where the IAC sensor is located on a 2004 150 5.4

4.6L, 5.4L & 6.8L Engines
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the accelerator control splash shield.
  3. Remove the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connector.
  4. Disconnect the throttle bypass hose.
  5. Remove the mounting bolts and the IAC valve.
  6. Installation is the reverse order of removal. Tighten mounting bolts in two steps:
    • Step 1: to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
    • Step 2: an additional 90°

Ford f-150 stalls when i turn and have the clutch pushed in. it only happens occasionally. does anyone know what this could be. is it expensive to fix

Try removing the Idle Air Control from the top of the Throttle Body and cleaning out the holes underneath. Often they become fouled with oil and carbon buildup. If that doesn't work, You may need to test and/or replace the Idle Air Control valve.
