Question about 1992 Dodge Dakota

Open Question

Hi,my 1992 dodge dakota 4x4 extended cab with a 318 engine is giving me problems!! The brake light and anti lock lights are both on,brakes were working but I found a leak in the rear brake line. Replaced rear shoes, rear cylinders, rear brake lines, front pads and master cylinder. Bench bled the cylinder and then after installing I bled all the lines till there is no air and only clear brake fluid. Tested the power assist and it holds a vacuum. When the engine is off I can get resistance and the brake pedal but when I start the engine I lose all brakes with the pedal going all the way to the floor and the lights remain on. Is there a way to test if the power control on the frame is bad or would it be more likely that I have a problem with the abs module and can I test that??

SOURCE: automatic door locks

Depends on if your dakota has a factory alarm or not. if it does then i dont think you can because it would trigger the alarm and you wont be able to start the truck. If not then it may be as simple as pulling a fuse. Search the web for a fuse chart and see what you find.

SOURCE: 1996 dodge ram 3500, abs brakes are locking up

is it the front or rear locking up? you really have to have this truck loaded (load valve under bed) before the back brakes come on and i think these are the same as my 1999 2500 where the rear is only abs, and not on the front..dumb design i know, but thats how it is...determining if its rear abs only and which axle is locking up will help pin point the problem...i put 100000 miles on my dodge since i got it in 2001 and i put 8 sets of pads on the front and just changed the rear lining and thats only because the rear wheel cylinder was leaking causing the rear brakes to lock up..

Emergency Brake light and Anti-lock light show on the dashboard of my 1992 Dodge Dakota...thought it might be low brake fluid, but it looks ok. Just had new front brakes put on 2 months ago. What else...

well sounds like at this point you need to have the ABS system scanned for codes.generally, whenever those lights come on one or both it is an indication of a malfunction in the ABS sys.could just be a inexpensive sensor so dont panic yet...just get it scanned and go from there. hope this helped ley me know have a good day Darrell

Anti lock brake light won't go off

Check all the wiring to each wheel for a sensor is attached to the back side of each one. Road debries can shear a wire in two and cause the ABS light to stay on and have good brakes at the same time

1996 dodge dakota Abs and brake light stay on all the time on the dash board. which module needs to be replaced??

On a Dodge when you have a problem with the anti-lock brake system or the hydraulic brake system it turns both lights on. You need to have your truck inspected to find out which one has the problem.

well because the abs light indicates a problem with your anti-lock braking system you need to find out why it is on.... keep in mind one quick way you would disengage your cruise is with the brake pedal.
under the hood is a fuse panel (often located near the battery) ... see if there is a relay in the for your cruise... replace that.
