2006 jeep grand Cherokee limited if the radiator overflow jug is empty will it cause the transmission temp light to come on

I would say it is possible an overheated engine which is not coolling the transmission can trigger a lot of lights. Many transmissons are heated and coolled by a line which goes to the radiator of the engine cooling system.

Check engine light

Check levels if fine and not over heating clear the engine light sometimes changes in level will trigger it. If light comes on again after adding fluid. Then you know its something further but unlikely if it hasn't been over heating. If your losing fluid you might want to check around pump to make sure gasket seal is still good or check and make sure plastic turn opening valve on bottom of radiator isn't loose.

Smoke coming from the hood check engine light

Someone else's code may not help you as the light could come on for a number of reasons. Smoke under your hood could be due to a leak or leaks such as oil, coolant, power steering fluid and so on and as the engine gets hot the fluids will burn off on the hot engine or exhaust causing it to smoke. The smell when you turn the heat on could be because your heater core is leaking. This would be accompanied with low coolant levels, overheating and low heat especially at idle also the carpet may be wet. If your vehicle is equipped with a cabin air filter the smell could also come from there as leaves and other debris and sometimes even rodents can get in there. Also if you don't allow you evaporator to dry by shutting off the ac but letting the fan run for a couple of minutes the water on the evaporator can cause mold and mildew to grow giving you a funny smell as well. Hope this helps.

My power steering light came on on my 2005 chevy malibu it went out right away is this a problem

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. If the steering wheel is making noises when you turn or it is harder to turn the wheel now, it is. If it is not doing that, I would check my steering fluid level just to be sure. You may need to add a little fluid to it. If this all checks out, you should be fine. Just keep a close eye on it to see if it comes on again. If it does, get it looked at. If there was a problem, you would probably see a check engine light come on. When you check your fluid, make sure there are no leaks. If there are, take it to get looked at. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and thanks for using FixYa.

The o/d light flashes and the check engine light is on. The car has had no other problems, just started on Saturday. What could it be? My mechanic cleared the computer but suggested that I take it to a...

The transmission in your car is a GF4A-EL. The cooling capacity is weak. Many owners have installed auxillary coolers. Fluid should be changed every 2 yrs. or 30,000 miles. If you take your car to Advanced Auto or Autozone they will, for free, identify what code or codes are causing the check engine light to come on. More than likely you will have a P code that is pointing at the transmission. Any additional information is always usefull. Perhaps the transmission is overheating; If you plan on keeping the car I would suggest that you have an auxillary cooler installed. Also have the fluid changed. Let me know how you make out.
