E2000 van oil comeing out of cyls.3 and 4 very black and sticky.just fitted overhauld head.what could cause this .


there is a head gasket problem probably from the head bolts not holding the head down tight. When working on a head always make sure that tye head stud holes ore clean by using a thread tap and blowing the holes out with compressed air. Oil, water and gunk will stop the head stud from screwing all the way in yet you will still achieve the tension setting because the stud has bottomed out--hence the head gasket is not under correct pressure and the head studs are not under the correct tension.

Can you put head gaskets on back to front


it is very possible to install head gaskets backwards. if installed incorretly you will block oil and water passages .the oil hole is not very large so you will want to make sure they are not clogged by the gasket material

What to do when there no psi on cyl 4 to get the psi up agan"?"


There are at least three possible reasons for no psi in cyl No 4.
1. Burnt or damaged exhaust valve in that cylinder
FIX Remove head and replace faulty valve
2. Blown head gasket (water mixed with sump oil shows milky on dipstick and steam or water coming out of exhaust tailpipe, radiator water disappears )
FIX Remove head, grind flat and assemble with new gasket.
3. Broken piston rings, or cracked piston or burnt hole in piston.
FIX replace faulty parts.
Squirt some sump oil ( 2 or 3 spoonfuls ) through spark plug hole,
spin motor , and if compression PSI improves then it is rings or piston, if no PSI then it is faulty ex valve !!!

Engine oil mixing into coolant


The only place, oil and water share a gasket is the cylinder head gasket, oil and water galleries run through the engine block and head via the head gasket. The cylinder pressure will be OK, it's the oil pressure that's putting the oil in the coolant, the gasket has gone between the water and oil galleries or there is an internal crack (unlikely). A coolant pressure test should show it up.

How to change head gasket


Unplug all wires and hoses connected to the cylinder head and remove the head cover. You may need to remove the A/C fan to be able to clear it of the studs on the engine block.2 Set the motor to "top dead center," or TDC. Remove the #1 cylinder's spark plug as well as the valve cover so you can observe the springs. Insert a screwdriver into the open spark plug hole, and rotate the motor by hand, counter-clockwise. When the #1 cylinder is on its intake stroke, watch the screwdriver. Turn the motor very slowly until the screwdriver reaches its highest point. Remove the screwdriver. Slide off the timing belt, and be sure you do not rotate the motor any further.3 Remove the head bolts in order, and double check that no coolant lines are still connected. Lift the cylinder head out. It will be very heavy--this is where you'll likely need the help of another person. Remove the old head gasket. 4 Drain the oil from the cylinder head. Clean the pistons, valves, headbolt holes and all other parts with degreaser and a toothbrush. Wipe down with a paper towel when finished.5 Set the new head gasket into the engine block, lining it up correctly. Carefully place the cylinder head back in, on top of the head gasket. Soak the headbolts in oil to lubricate them, then replace them. Tighten each bolt until it is snug--no further.6 Start the torquing sequence, following the directions in your Honda's manual. In most D-series cars, you need to torque each bolt to 22 foot-pounds, then all to 53 foot-pounds. Be certain to follow the correct torquing sequence as indicated in the manual, or you could warp the head.7 Reinstall the timing belt and reconnect all wires and coolant lines.

    Water in spark plug hole


    If by water you mean coolant or anti freeze then yes you probably have a head gasket out.You can remove the plugs and turn the motor over and see if water comes out of the plug holes.One other thing is if you replace the head gaskets do them both not just one head.Hope this helps.Good luck.

    you really need to have your cylinder head opened and checked. Your mechanic is right. The cylinder head might have warped due to overheating or might have a hairline crack were water can seep through. You will be lucky if the head gasket is the only problem.

    Dead miss on #1 cyl


    hole in top of piston/rings broke/big gouge down side of piston.head gasket or head related problem,oil feed to head runs by no 1 cylinder .Do a compression test,or just pull the head off and have a look.

    94 GMC sonoma needs head gasket


    no real pit falls just drain coolant remove head have head checked at machine shop. Clean engine surface good and rise good with brake clean, make sure head gasket is on correct before head goes on bolt down with proper torque and sequence then finish up then drain oil.

    Oil in radiator dead miss in #3 cyl 1994 ford explorer 4X4 also runs hot in about 18 miles with ac on could this be a blown head gasket or something else


    If there is oil in the radiator - DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR. You are risking serious engine damage. After you change the head gasket, you must change the oil and the antifreeze. You definitely have at least a blown head gasket. On the bright side you know for sure which head to take off.
