Question about 2001 Volkswagen Golf

1 Answer

Hi, i have a 2001 mk4 golf 1.4 s fitted with the axp engine. had the head gasket changed last week, all skimmed , pressure tested properly etc. got the car back and what i thought was just unburnt oil on the top of the engine doesnt apear so anymore. it started with alot of steam/smoke and oil dripping from the oil cap. i cleaned out the oil distributor pipe that goes to air filter and seems to have stopped oil being thrown out of the oil cap but there is still steam/smoke. not as much as before but still noticeble. the major issue is when removing the cap there is ALOT of steam/smoke but more strangely a gargling/bubbling noise like a brook. video is below http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5XDaZN1e5w&feature=youtube_gdata_player any help or ideas would be great, cheers

I had a look at the video and it looks like steam - to confirm oil will not evaporate but steam will disappear. If it is steam you have a blown head gasket again or a crack in the head, but you definitely seem to be getting water/steam into your crankcase.

How to replace 1998 Ford conture blown head gasket need help never did one

Hi
If you haven't ever done one then i suggest take to a garage.
You need to take the engine head off.
Timing belt off.
Radiator flashed / change
all water hoses off and cleaned.
head pressure tested
head skimmed.
Oil flush
New oil and oil filter.

Its not a simple job. whilst everything is open. change the timing belt and water pump as well.

I used holts wonderweld in my cast iron cylinder head in 2013. Last week the car overheated can I use holt wonderweld after skimming the top or it still sealed.

I would say that you used Holts because of a leaking head gasket. You should be fitting a new head gasket so there should be no need for the use of holts.

Qd32 keeps blowing head gasket in a short distance as put on changed head and checked block but is still doing the same thin

When you do a head job there is a problem with water getting into the head bolts holes in the block. Combined with gunk already in the hole when you insert the head studs and tension down all you are doing is causing a hydraulic in the hole under the stud and the correct pressure to seal the head gasket is not being achieved.. It is a requirement that when doing a head job the stud holes are cleaned out using a thread tap ( to remove rust and carbon build up) and the holes are blown out with compressed air to remove all water-oil and debris.. Most mechanics use a film of oil on the stud threads before installing them-- My preference is "never seize" as it allows the threads to move freely under tension and stops binding of the threads. Tension the head studs in the correct order of rotation to settle the head gasket in place starting at 20 ft/lbs and do each rotation in increased increments of 10 ft/lbs until the correct head tension is reached . Before fitting the head check the protrusion of each cylinder liner above the block to ensure that they are all within tolerance as if one is lower than the rest it will not allow proper seating of the head

HOW CAN I DIAGNOSE FOR FAULT OF OVERHEATING GOLF GTI MK4 YEAR2000. I HAVE CHANGED THERMOSTAT. IT COULD BE ENGINE GASKET OR WATER PUMP. HEATING IN CAR NOT WORKING AFTER THERMOSTAT CHANGE.

Have a Cooling System pressure test done. Any good shop can do it for you. It can be alot of things and instead of throwing parts at it, have the system pressure tested. That will identify your problem.
