Question about 1999 Kia Sephia

2 Answers

I was driving my 1999 Kia Sephia the other day and out of nowhere it just died..... It will crank over without any problems and I've checked all fuses and relays and nothing is blown. I put a new fuel pump in and a new fuel filter and it still wont fire. I have spark and my timing belt isn't broke...... If I spray starting fluid into the intake the car will try to start so I'm not getting fuel. Any idea what could be wrong?

You might want to take a look at the fuel pressure regulator. If the diaphram is stuck you wont get the pressure needed to start.

2000 kia sephia cranks but engine wont run

The fuel pump may have died. Can you hear it turn on briefly, by turning the key to "on"? You may have to stand by the gas tank while someone turns the key to on. It should turn on for about 2 seconds and then stop, after pressurizing the fuel system. If you don't hear it, then check the fuel pump fuse. If the fuse is good, and the pump won't run, one needs to check that the fuel pump wire at the tank connector has battery voltage on it when the engine is cranking-then, you can assume the pump needs replacing.
If the pump is working and you have gas up to the engine, you would next check the ignition system. Start that by checking for spark on one of the spark plug wires.

My 1999 kia sephia wont pass smog test

You will need to get it scanned and get the codes for the problem. If it failed the test due to emissions I would almost guarantee it will be your oxygen sensor or cat

1999 kia sephia cranks over but wont start, sputters like it wants to now and again and in between sputtering it spins fast without that "thump" of compression it normal has. replaced fuel pump and fuel...

check your timing belt put no 1 cylnder at top dead center timing mark at 0 remove your distrebuter cap and see if the rotor is pointing at number 1 spark plug
if not replace that belt (replacement is at 60k I believe) sounds like the fix good luck CJ ps no. one on compression stroke

Tranmission

Check the automatic transmission fluid level while the engine is running. If it is low, do not drive it. Turn the car off and add some, and check again. Be careful, it's probably going to be warm.

Check engine light on and O/D OFF light flashing

I was facing a similar problem when I bought my car, I think the "check engine" lit due to a problem with shifting control system which obviously made the "O/D-off" flashes. The best solution in this case is to replace the malfunctioning shifting control system (a closed steel box that works like a computer). This is what I did and since then it's running perfectly.
