Is the inside release releaseing the hood? it should be up a couple of inches when you go out to release the lever,,,If it is the lever it could get stuck ,spray some liq, rench or wd-40 right on where the lever turns and work it back and forth and push it as hard as you can should release.

My car hood won't release to open

Greg, the spring in latch release is weak or broken probably or it is still seized and lubricant still has to be worked into it. You can probably get a replacement fairly cheap at auto recyclers.

Safety catch on hood wont release and hood wont re latch!

I would check to see if the hood release moves when the inside lever is pulled then pushed, if not the cable and latch mechanism may need lubrication or be broken.

Cant get the hood to pop so i can opennthe hood

If you have a inside hood release, the cable might have come off the latch system. If you can see the latch through the front hood seam or the grille, use a long screw driver or putty knife blade to trip the latch. If the latch release is OK, the POP-UP spring might be broken and you could use a coat hanger wire to pull up on the hood as the latch is released.

Hood release inside my 2000 ford focus popped to release but I can not open the hood of the car? what should I do?

Might just be stuck. Have someone pull the release as you FIRMLY pound on the front of the hood in the middle with your fist (NOT A HAMMER ! ! ! !).

If that works and it opens, get some WD40 and spray the latch and cable, lever, etc... and then work the release lever before closing it again. If the cable has broken....... it is very difficult to release without some automotive knowledge. I'm betting it is just stuck...

Good Luck.

Cant open hood on 2002 accord. cable is broken on hood end, is their a way to get hood open with a screwdriver?

if you get the car up in the air just pull the bottom of the bumper so you can get your hand inside there and on the left (standing in front of the car) you will see like a small little square thing on the latch wwaaayy up in there. take a long screw driver and just move it like a eighth inch and your hood will pop right open.

Or you will have to remove the front bumper.
Best of luck

I can pull on latch from inside and it feels like there is slack in the cable. will not pop the hood latch

if you can reach between the grill and you should be able to manually pop the hood moving the latch then check see if cable broke or came loose from the latch sounds like it broke

When inside latch is pulled it will open a little, but the latch under the hood wont move, its stuck? or stripped?

there is a small metal cable attached to the latch inside. adjust the cable to where it is tighter and it should pop open correctly.

Trying too find the hood relies on a 1968 cougar XR7

Hello buttercup666...For 1985-88 models, the latch was moved to the left kick panel, below the parking brake release. Once you've pulled the latch, the hood will pop up about an inch. To further open the hood, stand directly in front of the grille and use your left hand to push up the release under the hood. The release is slightly to the left of center.
Good luck i hope this helps, please rate my response a fixya

After you have pull the hood latch inside try beating on the front corners of the hood to see if it will pop up enuf jus to get ahold of the latch(under the grill on the drivers side). You can also get to the latch from under the car but make sure you pull the cord inside first
