If you installed a new starter then it`s possible that the starter relay has gone bad which is located in the under hood relay box i referred to a new starter as a used one could have the same problem as the one you took out if it had a problem

I just replaced my starter on my 1996 dodge dakota but it still wont start

A mechanic would check for voltage from the key switch at the starter solenoid. If the starter will jump and crank, it could be the neutral safety switch or the key switch, or a problem with the battery cables.

2005 Dodge Dakota engine wont turn over

Assuming that your battery is not dead, and that you have checked the battery connections, the most likely problem is a bad starter solenoid and will need a new starter.

Starting issue with a 1991 dodge dakota with a 318 v8. I have replaced spark plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor, and now the coil pack after I had the truck stall out and would not start 3 weeks ago. Now...

You may have a bad engine ground to the frame. Check & clean any ground wire connections. Also there may be a ballast resistor mounted on the firewall &/Or the starter that has cracked. This will only allow the truck to start in dry conditions. Make sure your red starter cable is not frayed & in good condition & clean the connections at the battery & starter. Hope this helps. Good luck!

When I try to start my 1991 dodge dakota it clicks before turning over and sometimes it won't turn over. I wanted to run a temporary bypass from the starter to check it but my repair manual doesn't have a...

the sound you hear is the starter solenoid engaging the Bendix into the flywheel, when the solenoid engages there are hi current contacts that make between the battery and the starter motor, over time these contacts burn due to spark when engaging, at the very least the battery terminal is corroded and cannot supply the current to the starter to activate, if the connections at the battery are sound, then the solenoid must be replaced, the starter is located underneath, and to one side or the other of the bell housing, follow the cable from the positive side of the battery down to the starter, you cant miss it, the solenoid is located on the top side of the starter and can be removed by removing 2 bolts on ether side of the solenoid, good luck

1991 Dodge Dakota truck will not turn over nothing and I also get no brake No power at all

Try cleaning the wires on the starter, disconnect the battery first, remove the two bolts on the starter, clean all corrosion and put the bolts back on, and see if the vehicle will get any power.
