4x4 indicator light shows it to be in 4 whl drive, but thats not the case. The transfer case does not seem to be engaging the front axles. Although when I switch it into 4-lo it sounds like it is tring to...

I have had this problem two years in a row, #1 there is not enough oil in the differenctial or it needs changed. use a quality lubrican and fill it full. Fords dont like it when their not full. #2 check the transfer case. Mine was low on oil too.
I live in the Tungra of Iowa so have a mechanic do this on a hoist. I am lucky to have a friend with one.

Now for some reason I have a leak in the front end that I cant see??? No oil dripping, no wet spots by the axil or pumpkin, but every year I need more fluid. It is really a problem and I am stumped by it I have been turning a wrench for almost 40 years and never seen anything like it.

#1Put the Ford in Nuetral #2 switch to Lo 4x4 3 then go into Drive. If you need 4x4 hi roll out in Low for 15 feet stop the truck put it in nuetral again and the in high 4x4 . These a electric shift POS s and they are tempormental.Good Luck friend.

Hi
If you look under the jeep by the transfercase
you will see the shifter for the 4wd a arm with a rod is on this goes to the tranfercase,, there is a ajuster on it if you turn the rod to the to the left with a plyers this will make it longer try a cpl turns at a time untill you feel it is locking in low range

High range 4x4 works. light comes on. but the low range does not ingage nor does the light

dunno if this is your solution but your bronco only will go in low range if it is in nuetral. not park but nuetral only start your bronco put it in 4 high first then once it goes into 4 high make sure in nuetral then put in 4 low.

Ok i have a 1999 ford ex and i got a new battry for it and look at some fuse but now the 4x4 light is on on my dashbord and when i swick it two 4w it drive bad and truns left real slow some on help

If the 4wd light is not flashing, then it is likely it stuck in 4wd (possbily on accident?). The slow turning and bad driving indicates that it may be in 4wd Low. They only way to take it out of 4wd Low is to put the truck in nuetral and with your foot on the brake, switch the dial (or floor lever) to 2wd. The light should go out almost immediately. Then put the shifter in drive from nuetral and drive at least 15 feet forward. That will disengage the front hubs and you should be all set.

Hope this helps.

you need to pull the switch out of the dash and look behind the swict hfor the actuator, chances are the stud that touchs the actual relay is broken use a pen or something slender and long to push it to the desiref position, other than thats go to a junk yard and look for that switch, should just pop out with a lil prying..

04 Kia Sorento stuck in 4WD Low

The 1st time my 04 Sorento got stuck in 4WD low it was towed to dealership & they claimed it was the switch. Six months later, while on a camping trip, got stuck again. The local tow truck driver saved me hundreds of dollars in towing costs. Put it in reverse for at least 10-20 feet. That's it! He said that he found this to be a common problem. I later asked my dealership why they failed to mention this solution to me. They replied that they thought I knew! Spread to word!

4x4 won't engage

I have to stop, engage 4H or 4L, and shift into nuetral and then the front gear box will then engage and you can hear it from nuetral and the engine at idle, it will slip into gear, if not, in gear go slow with 4x4 light "on" and while rolling slip into nuetral and then back into D, Some transfer cases will not engage in Overdrive, the D with a circle around it so shift into 3rd gear the one to the right of the D with a circle around it. 4 H has a speed limit, and do not shift into 4L while on pavement or you can do some damage.

should have some kind of fault light on to read fault codes

its mostly an electronic solenoid shift system
could be a transfer box fault
