Question about 1993 Geo Metro

3 Answers

Both headlights on my 1993 Geo Metro went out at the same time. I have checked the fuses and even replaced the headlights but stll both headlights do not work. All the lights work on the car except the headlights, both hi and low beams do not work. Dash lights work when turning on the lights. Anyone have any idea of what to do next? Thank you.

Have you checked for voltage at the headlight plug and ground there as well if you don`t have power then it sounds like it is the headlight switch itself, usually if it is a relay one or the other will work but the relay can stop working all together,so keep this in mind,

having a meter then i can assume you know how to use it properly.set meter so it measures 12 volts, turn headlights on,put ground terminal(of meter)on the battery negative terminal and positive terminal(of meter) on each of the connector plug terminals doesn`t matter which, you should see voltage on one terminal, then put high beams on and check again you should have voltage on another terminal(12 volts or battery voltage) at each terminal then if you have voltage at terminals one or the other then the terminal that you didn`t have voltage put the negative terminal of the meter on that location and the other to the battery positive terminal, you should have 12volts showing.you have now checked the wiring from the plug back to the switch,if you don`t have voltage at terminals then you have a bad headlight switch.

I suspect lever used to flip between HO/LO beams is bad (dimmer switch) is bad. Very common problem.

I think the headlight fuse is blown for my 92 geo metro, but the fuse box doesnt have a cover anymore so i cant tell which fuse to replace. can u help me?

Headlights are not powered by a fuse. It uses a mini circuit breaker and or a main fuse located in the main fuse/relay center under hood. Have the mini circuit breaker checked. The fuses/relays are marked in the main box.

My headlights went out both at the same time but i checked the fuses under the dash and they are good so what could be the problem?

Check the fuses under the hood. There is a black fuse box. If they are all good double check the bulbs. I had a lot of people that drove around with one headlight and didn't realize it then the other one burns out later and there is no headlights causing them to think they both went out at the same time. If that stuff is all okay I would replace the headlight switch and if by slim chance that don't work I would replace the multi function switch. One of them things should fix your problem.

1990 geo metro headlight problem

hmmmm sounds like you are on the right track with the ground . with as much current as headlights pull it is possible that the intermittent open you are experiencing has to do with heat coming from an open in the wiring . i believe your best bet would be to locate a wiring diagram for your cars headlight circuit and inspect every wire in that circuit as well as one surrounding for thing like : burn marks , corrosion , places where insulation has worn off or is no longer even there ( :) ) ,and i believe you may find something . also , some cars come with a set of relays specifically for the headlights . these the headlights may be drawing extra current through the relay causing it to switch off (means headlights are bad ) , or the relay itself may have worn out over time (relay (s) may be bad ). i hope this helps you
