Well if the timing mark is jumping around that's a good sign that the timing chain is streched and there is play in the chain that could cause the timing to be off does it ever stall out after it bogs and going up hill on the interstate that's your over drive kicking in and out trying to keep you at speed try timing it at the correct timing then take it on the road when you start going up a hill take it out of over drive see if that stops the shifting up an down good luck

Check compression in each cylinder., sounds as if it might be piston rings.oil thins as it warms so the drop in pressure seems to point to loss of compression .i take it it doesn't blow smoke out of exhaust?

2002 Nissan Altman looseing anti freeze but nothing under the car

Many possible causes. Leak can be when you drive, but not show on your driveway. The heater could be leaking into the passenger area, though you'd likely smell the "maple syrup" smell of anti-freeze.

It's also possible that you have a head gasket leak into the coolant, causing the overheating, and blowing some of your coolant out. Get a compression test on the cooling system, and a compression check on the cylinders.

Car starts and runs drivers ok on flat ground, loses power on a hill

could be a head gasket that is losing pressure going up a hill with the added strain.

2000 pontiac bonneville overheating

Look in the radiator to determine if the brown stuff is rust or oil. If it's oil then the head gaskets are blown and the heads will have to go to a machine shop to be ground flat. Do them both even if one side is ok, or the engine will never idle right. If it's just rust, install a back flush kit and blow out the rust. Turn the heater on when you back flush to get the rust out of the heater core. Replace the thermostat and anti freeze. Pressurize the radiator and make sure it holds. If the pressure drops off then look to find where the leak is (head gaskets)

Low oil pressure after heads replaced

Was the oil changed? Has the low pressure been verified with a mechanical test gauge at the oil pressure sending unit pressure port? Do that 1st before assuming the pressure is low.

How do i fix the low oil pressure issue im having. When i drive, the temp stays normal at 210 but when i idle, it goes up to 260. I was told the oil pressure is low and i needed a new engine

Your engine is overheating, which isn't directly related to oil pressure. I would take the S10 to a reputable/trusted mechanic and have him perform the following tests.
Compression Test Leak Down Test Coolant System Pressure Test Inspect Oil for Moisture (you can do this one, remove the dipstick, does the oil on it look like milk? If it looks like milk it means there is water/coolant in the oil, a sign of a blown head gasket. However not all head gaskets dump coolant into the oil when they blow) Inspect Clutch Fan for proper operation
The mechanic will know what those mean, It sounds like your head gaskets may be blown, which is why the engine would be overheating. Also if the Clutch Fan isn't working properly, it won't pull enough air through the radiator to keep the engine cool at an idle or while sitting still.
If the Head Gaskets are blown, it doesn't necessarily mean you need a new engine.
One other thing to note, when an engine overheats, the oil breaks down and no longer works as good as it used to.

Oil in rad overflow?low power going up hills?changed plugs ,wires, and fuel filter just recently.told possible head gasket.if it is head gasket would this affect low power on steep hills?

yes. it will affect power all together because not only is oil getting into the radiator but coolant is also getting into the cylinders.

Well this could be in your timing. As cars get some miles on them the timing chain stretches therefore causing you car to lose alot of power. So you may want to have your timing set on this car. Also I had a taurus that had a bad torque converter, and it lost alot of power on hills and under loads, also when i gunned the gas pedal. so try the timing first. Hopefully you dont have a bad head gasket or a cracked head these symptoms you are describing are all signs of head gaskets or blown heads
