What temperature thermostat do I need for my 2004 ford explorer?

The standard thermostat temperature for alot of vehicals is a 195 degree thermostat, manufacturers use this temperature because running the engine at this temperature helps control emission output alot better, if your still unsure of your thermostat temperature I would call your nearest ford dealer and ask their service department what temperature thermostat should be used in your particular model ford....

I am helping change a thermostat - (we have no manual) where exactly is the thermostat located. This is a 4 cyl, standard trans, 2WD, speedo stopped working at 225K. Heater went out about 6 months ago, AC...

The thermostat cannot cause your heater to go out, though the heater will run a little cooler if the thermostat is stuck open. Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6235876-no_heat_fan_blowing_cold_air to troubleshoot the heater. In particular, I would start by checking the temperature control cable adjustments. I have pasted instructions from autozone.com below.

If you really want to change the thermostat, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5929960-s_thermostat . The thermostat is in the housing at the end of the upper radiator hose.

For the speedo, It's probably a broken cable. Have someone take the cable off the tranny and spin the cable in their fingers while you watch the speedo. If the speedo works, the problem is with the gear in the tranny, else the cable is broke.

Let me know if you have more questions along your journey. :o)

Heater temperature control cables to blend door and heater water valve--adjustment:
WATER VALVE CONTROL ROD

See Figure 8

  1. Push the air mix door lever in the correct direction.
  2. Pull the control rod in the direction shown (in the accompanying illustration) until there is an 0.08 in. (2mm) clearance between the ends of the rod and link lever. Connect the rod to the door lever.

What the normal operating tempature of peugeot 406

as with all cars it depends on the thermostat that has been installed but should be about 180 to 200 degrees F. this is pretty much standard in all autos due to the boiling point of water and the need to prevent too much pressure from building up in the system which could damage gaskets ans seals etc. check the specification section in your glovebox manual as it may have the answer for you as well. be careful not to open up the system if its hot to prevent burns.

Thermostat housing replacement

These are the steps to replace the thermostat but are applicable to remove and replace the housing also. 2.0L DOHC Zetec Engine WARNING Do not mix Standard (green) Coolant with Extended Life Coolant (orange). If mixing occurs, drain engine cooling system and refill with originally equipped coolant type. If this contamination occurs the service change interval on Extended Life Coolant will be reduced from 6 years/150,000 miles to 3 years/30,000 miles.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Drain the engine coolant to a point below the water thermostat.
  3. Disconnect the connector from the camshaft position sensor.
  4. Remove the bolts and move to one side the water hose connection.
  • Remove the water thermostat and seal from the water thermostat housing.
  • Inspect the seal and the water thermostat.
  • To install:
    1. Replace the thermostat and seal into the housing.
    2. Connect the connector to the camshaft position sensor.
    3. Fill the cooling system.
    4. Start the engine and check all hoses and connections for leaks. Allow the engine to warm up so that the water thermostat opens.
    5. Stop the engine. Top off the coolant recovery reservoir as necessary to maintain minimum cold fill level.

    1994 Buick Skylark overheating

This vehicle uses a 195 degree thermostat. Standard operating temperature is about 210. If the vehicle was running 160 before then the thermostat was probably stuck open before.

    Overheating

You can remove the thermostat, but this is not the best thing in the world for your engine. Your thermostat lets your engine reach operating temperature quickly for best oiling. Over cooling is almost as bad as over heating and since your thermostat is relatively cheap (http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_THERMOSTAT-PERFORMANCE-Mr--Gasket_17360031-P_N6003E_P%7CGRP2061A____) 9.99 at advance, you should just go ahead and change it out. Let me know if this helps :)

    1999 Dodge Durango NO HEAT

Bad NEW thermostat? I had the same problem on my first generation Dakota. The problem for me turned out to be the DODGE thermostat I used to replace the old Dodge part. I went and got a Stant from local auto parts store using the standard temperature spec and quit shivering the next time I drove it. I hope that helps!
