Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Yes it can be the computer but it can be a faulty coil pack too. It's possible that a coil pack failure can't be determine by the car's computer. If the coil pack is faulty it tends not to give spark so replacement is necessary.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Would the electronic distributor pickup cause a vehicle to spit, sputter and cut out at a high rate of speed ????

First you can not put Bosch plugs in it. Also watch cheap wires from parts house. Also check fuel pump pressure at high speed. Also watch for Catt converter plugging. Try unscrewing up stream o2 on both sides then drive. If goes away plugged Catt. You can scan those and see fuel values. Then you can tell. Any codes?

My Truck is a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 Ltr. engine 5 speed manual trans. Truck died battery is good lights all work. starter cranks engine over I've got fuel pressure. but no spark I pulled plug wire...

Very possible it's the crank sensor. You can put a test light on the ground side of the coil and crank it over.. if nothing happens while cranking, good possibility, but there are a lot of them! Could be a simple relay, dirty or loose connection!

Service engine soon lite is on

You need to have the engine computer scanned for trouble codes to find out why the light is on. The computer has detected a fault in a sensor or controller that it monitors. The code will tell you what it is.
Autozone and many other national chains perform this scan for free. They can hook up a hand held scanner to the engine computer and give you the code, or codes if more than one. Just ask for an OBD-2 scan for trouble codes. OBD means on board diagnostics. OBD-2 is the system on all cars manufactured after 1996 to the present.
After you get the codes, you can decide what to do. Sometimes it's an easy fix, but sometimes a mechanic may need to do further testing and diagnosis to fully correct the problem.

My 95 olds cutlass ciera will start up and run for about 5 minutes, then start sputtering like it aint getting no gas, slow down then die till it cools off then starts back up, putting again, losing speed...

Check spark at spark plug using a spark tester and fuel pressure at the rail when it acts up. If the pressure is ok at the rail, but the injectors aren't firing, that can point to a bad computer. If the fuel pressure is present but the spark is not being supplied to spark plug wires to spark plugs, then an ignition module might be in need of replacement (the metal plate the coil packs sit on). If the engine has a service engine soon light before it dies, maybe check the codes that should be stored in the computer using an OBD-I scanner.

2000 F150 4.2 LTR 5 SPEED NO SERVICE ENGINE LITE OR NO SPARK. WILL NOT GIVE ME ANY CODES

check the fuses for the ECU just in case first then if all ok check the crank sensor with a automotive meter for a voltage across the multiplug connection of the sensor ,disconnect it and connect the meter to these two wires and see if it shows a pulse of voltage as engine is cranked .if no pulse replace the sensor ,if a pulse try the spare key in case the chip has dropped out of the key .

I changed my spark plugs and afterwards the chech engine light came on. the jeep runs great. what can make that happen?

IT could be something such as a loose plug wire. The best advise I can give you is to take your jeep to your local auto parts store and have them pull the codes out of your on board computer. This will give you an area that you can concentrate on to make the necessary repairs to get your check engine light to go out.

When a misfire occurs, engine speed will fluctuate. If the engine speed fluctuates enough to cause the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor signal to vary, The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module (ECM) can determine that a misfire is occurring.

When is the code detected?

Symptoms:
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/loss of power

- Insufficient compression at cylinder #5 and #6
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted at cylinder #5 and #6

Engi lite flashes 16 times thought this service

depending on the year of this car, a flashing check engine light means a misfire, this may be due to a bad spark plug or the wires to plugs, you can go to any autopart store and they will scan the computer and give you an idea of the problem and give you the codes, what happens is the computer sees a problem and it turns the light on to warn you of the problem , it then stores a code, this code will tell you what part of the system is failing or failed. if you can give me the year ,make and model with the codes the autopart store gives you i can help you further, hope this is helpful. good luck.

Need a tune up on a 1996 GMC snoma,5 speed,2.2 ltr.

Get sparkplugs and plug wires. A/C delco plugs if possible. Gap plugs to .060 witha spark plug gapper. Use a 3/8 rachet and extention with a 5/8 spark plug socket will make the job easier, and last but not least stay calm and work through everything. good luck

Engine lite stays on, before that the overdrive lite was flashing

Your vehicle’s computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with one of the components or sensors it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and you need to diagnosed and repaired it. The list of possible codes number in the hundreds. The code itself doesn't tell exactly what component is defective - it only indicates where to look, or what engine parameter is out of normal range. You or a technician will have to perform further testing to pinpoint cause and the proper repair.
