Question about 1997 Ford Expedition

3 Answers

Any idea why my rear ac vents are not giving out much air (i can here a lot of noise from the ac and the third row seesm to be ok, it's only the second row). And when I drive uphill, all the ac's literally stop. I've been told it's the compressor. Does that sound right?

Could very well be ,but it could be the gas needs topping up and the pollen filter cleaning if fitted on a vehicle of this year ,Too test it you would need to couple the Ac up with a proper machine and then do a recovery /vacumn/and regas then with the red line connected you can read the compressor output pressure which should be around 20bar

Either that or something is in your duct work, when you drive up hill it rolls back and blocks the air.

Kia Sedona- center and third row heating vents blowing cold air

This model has a rear heat/cold blend door actuator. Its an electric motor that moves the duct door from hot to cold. When they wear out, they're usually stuck on the last setting

Kia Sedona- center and third row heating vents blowing cold air

There is a separate button on the lower dash labeled RR HTR for the rear heater. If you do not engage the switch it will blow cold air.

I have a 2003 Ford expedition Eddie bauer. Seat in third row stuck down and there's a constant clicking noise in right rear panel. I know my cuz took motor out. Can I bring seat back up without...

The clicking noise sounds like your blend door actuator. Try turning your AC/Heat OFF and see if it stops (give it a minute to travel in position). The actuator is a common failure in the Expys, costs about $50 to replace. You will have to remove the right rear panel to replace it - a few screws and a couple of bolts (where the seat belt attaches).
As for the seat not working, not sure about this. I would make sure the wiring harness is hooked up and the fuse is not blown. See your owners manual for fuse location.

When i turn on ac i get nothing but hot air in the front but the rear vents give out cold air

Hey! The ol' Exped. Ok these things have two ac systems. One for the rear and the front. You will need an ac preformance test ont eh front to be more diagnostic.

Rear a/c heat vent do not work

Sounds like the flapper valve for the rear heater/AC core is not doing its job to send the air through the AC core when called for.

Another clue of this is the fact that the air is coming out on the lower vents when it should be up high fro AC.

Have someone listen back by the fan inlet in the back usually on the right while you switch between AC and heat to see if they hear any noise or change in air flow.

Worst case is that the interior panel there has to be removed to service the assembly behind it.

2003 Ford Explorer. A/c blows cold, but not from front of vents

I have the 03 Expy with continuous rear air unit "clicking" or more accurately flapping of the air damper while the plastic gears in the 2L2H-19E616-AA grind away into toothlessness. Ford designed this unit to find the end of travel by jamming the motor to a stop and monitoring the current to determine when to stop applying voltage. That would probably be fine if the gears were designed to handle the jammed torque or the motor did not slip out of groove and continue turning and cracking the plastic gears.

There are two white colored boxes, one is for the temp plenum door, the other the upper/lower air flow. To be sure, do what I did, turn on the ignition, rear ac/heat and listen for the obnoxious click/thump as you move the temp control from full heat to full cool, you will know which part. Disconnect the electrical connector, four bolts and it is out!

Go to your dealer, part should be about $60 or less, look on line, lots of dealers sell for this or less on internet.
