Hi, the speed sensor should be located "inside" the transmission, under the tranny's side-cover. It's labour intensive because you must lower the whole engine/transmission cradle to access it.
It should be located inside the transmission. The sensor is located next to the sprocket for the input shaft. The sensor is held in place with 2 6mm bolts, one for the sensor, one for the wiring harness.

Location of cam sensor on 2006 Cadillac model sts 4.6 engine

Here is the sensor location on the 2005 STS. My understanding is that on the 2005 it sat over the exhaust cam sprocket and on the 2006 it sits over the intake cam sprocket. That should be no problem as there will only be one to locate.

I HAVE A 2002 CADILLAC STS. THE BRAKE, ABS, & TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON. IT ALSO SAYS TO SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM. THE CAR HAS BEEN CHECKED & NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND. THE TECH SAID THAT...

I have the same car and had the same issue, you will need to replace a wheel bearing hub assembly. The speed sensor is more than likely bad. I actually had the problem yesterday, and I replaced the hub today and it cost me $142.00 = tax for the repair. It's not hard to do, if you have the tools. Hope this helps

2005 sts code states service suspension and service wheel sensors

So does my 2006 STS....!
On the Tire monitoring subject.... The next time it tells you to service it, scroll through and see if the system is reporting a tire pressure for each tire, if it is, and there is not all dashes for one of the tires, there is nothing to worry about.
Note.... aftermarket rims, tire sealants and tire rotations done without "relearning wheel sensor positions", (page 5-67 in your manual), can cause a "DTC" (Diagnostic Trouble Code) to display and tell you to service it.
On the stability system, I have to do some more digging....
