Question about 1992 Volvo 740

Hi im working on a 92 volvo 740 with the 2.3 non turbo. the problem is i just did a motor swap the old one had "hard knocking " drove car in ran fine but loud. did the swap- while it was on the stand we changed the following. in too the new engine, front and rear main seal" crank seals",timing belt, water pump, thermostat,plugs,wires cap and button. everything went smooth...the problem is it will start but spins over alot,runs only at like maybe 1000rpms with the throttle wide open, then dies. wont run at all,if you dont full throttle it. there again atonly 1000rpms. every time it fowls the spark plugs. ill put new plugs in. hit the key starts right up instantly...perfect...idles..10 sec then dies wont start again. ill pull the plugs all 4 gas fouled, did compresion test. 150-150-145-150--- ps i have spark the whole time constant...why would the injectors all 4 fowl the plugs? i pulled the fuel rail and left the injectors wired and in rail..spun it...it looked to me like all 4 were spraying at the same time when trigered to srpay? they r not leaking..but when spining engine over they spray at the same time.. all 4.. not 2 and 2.. and not indivedual. like 1-2-3-4 real fast..... i tried un hooking the cold start injector to see if it was stuck open and drounding my plugs no change.........i have to get this car out. everyone i call says idn...

NEED ADJUST SET IGNITION TIMING.MOST TIME YOU INSTALL ANOTHER NEW ENGINE.THE IGNITION TIMING AT DISTRIBUTOR OFF TIME LITTLE TOO FAR ADVANCE CAUSING WEAK SPARKS FOULING OUT SPARK PLUGS. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SOON AS ENGINE STOP AGAIN DONT TURN ON IGNITION SWITCH CHECK FUEL PRESSURE.SHOULD BE 43 PSI. IF NOT 0 FUEL PUMP BAD OR FUEL PUMP RELAY FAULTY OR FUEL FILTER STOPPED UP.IF FUEL SYSTEM GOOD PROBLEM IN THE IGNITION TIMING.

MY 1991 740 Volvo Regina 4dr non turbo, has had the fuel pump and relay changed and the fuse #11 power wire is dead. Is there a fusible link and if so, can you tell me where it is located? Fuse #1 works...


Fusible links are either by the battery or down by the starter. But if everything else is working, this is not the problem You have a bad connection(pull the fuse and reinsert it or a broken wire). Most wires break close the the plugs.

How to replace wiper motor on a volvo 740 turbo 1990


The wiper motor is underneath the metal bonnet in between the wiper arms (the piece that looks like an air scoop) the comes out hard through prying and sometimes there are 4 screws that hold it in. Inside the engine bay. When prying the bonnet off start from the drivers side top and work your way across the top. Then once that is off then it is only 2 10 or 12 mm bolts. and a plug and that's it.

I have a 92 legacy sedan with bad motor. Bought a 92 legacy wagon turbo. Do I have to change wire harness in front with computor, or can I change just computor?


hi im presuming your old car is non turbo if so you will have to change a lot of parts over to make it work, you will have to replace entire engine loom, the ecu will need changed over then the fuel pump and all of the fuel lines will need to be replaced with the bigger turbo model ones to keep up also the trans will bolt strait up but will be the major weak point so swap over if possible.

Hello. i have owned many 740's, 240's, 122's, and 850's. I have done my fair share of transmission swaps. The transmission tag is located right above the trans-oil pan and directly below the od seloind on the drivers-side. if your volvo 740 is a non-turbo, the transmission is AW-70L, if it is a turbo-model then it is AW-71L. Engine swap, car will not start


It sounds like you don't have the correct flex plate and it is throwing the timing off not letting it fire at the correct time.

COLD START ISSUE


try pushing the 4 wires on the radio supression relay into the connector, then try starting it... does it start, run, then die? those connectors ****, i've had the same prob. have you let it huff on some ether? (starting fluid) does it come to life? that would confirm weather or not it its fuel related. my 740 i was loosing voltage to my injectors 10 volts and under, causeing them to inttermittantly not fire, caused by a bad connection at that supression relay.
