Question about 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Open Question

I have a 2002 Chevy Impala 3.8 LS. The Traction Control system will not disengage. This system needs to be turned off for a smog check. The CA smog check requires the vehicle to be tested on a Dyna scope. Pressing the Trac Off switch on the dash does not do anything. I ordered the dealer only Trac Off switch, installed it and still the same. Twice during the 10 days I was waiting for the switch to arrive, the Trac Off light flickered on and off with a constant chime and continued until I could pull over and turn the ignition off. During that period my original Trac Off switch was unplugged and riding in the console box! I went to one Smog Check Shop because he said he could bypass the system by removing the fuse for TCS. That fuse also is for ABS and the ignition. The car will not pass smog when it is off! What do I do? To make it more pressing, I got a parking ticket in Santa Cruz for my registration not being complete. If I complete the registration before 3/21, the fine is $10.00. If I can not meet the due date the fine is $78.00. HELP!

SOURCE: 2003 Chevy Impala Service Traction Sytem show on Dash

I can't answer the question about the gas fumes, but I had the same problem last year with the "Service Traction Sysytem" message and the Trac and ABS lights coming on in my Impala. Mine turned out to be because of a bad wheel bearing, that was causing the ABS and traction system not to work. I'm not sure if you've experienced this, but another thing that would happen with mine was that I would go to brake and have a hard time depressing the brake pedal, almost like it was pushing back. That is the point when the Trac and ABS lights came on.

I have a 2002 Lincoln Ls 3.9L V-8 the traction control doesn't dis-engage could this be the switch or a bigger problem?

Hogwash!! The traction control is incorporated with the ABS system and operates using the same sensors. It becomes active when one or more wheel speed sensors determine a slip in traction. If the vehicle is equipped with a traction button for turning off the system and it doesn't turn off, the button may be defective or possibly the control module.A scan test may be required on this module to determine the fault within the system. Your engine will not succumb to any damage. This mechanic needs some more training

Check engine light is on&traction control comes on my 2010 chevy impala

Traction control is simply put that one wheel has lost traction...This can happen even if you just pull out on the highway and perhaps one wheel is on small gravels and spins just the smallest fraction the light will come on...Also it happens a lot when it rains....Only way to get light off is disconnect negative cable to battery for 10 seconds then re-connect and it will clear all trouble lights because it re-sets the system.Engine light could have come on because of traction light causing a false code...All this is normal....You could at least check oil level....Auto-zone will scan it for free to see if you have any issues...And clear the codes with scanner...This way you can check for unseen problems......But you are probably safe if car has been well maintained.............Brooks.....

Service Throttle Control

It sounds like these things are all related. When the a computer sees a problem in the Electronic throttle system, it will dissable traction control, and give the reduced engine power alert because the powertrain computer does not know the value of throttle postion.
Codes will need to be scanned in the computersto begin diagnosis.

Service traction system message on dash

This light is usually caused by a problem in the ABS system. A problem in the ABS system will dissable the traction control system. you will need to have the computers scanned for trouble codes.
