Question about 2003 Chrysler Town & Country

3 Answers

I have a 2000 town and country. A/c runs cold for about 1 hour on a trip, then it blows warm. If you shut off engine for about ten minutes,it will run cold for another hour. Around town, on short trips it works great. I was told it was the compressor, but it sounds more like a switch problem, since it is fine after 10 minutes of shutting engine off.

Freon was checked and recharged or what ever they do to bring level up to where it should be.

    Thanks Pat

My freon is freeze up. I think it is a relay or sensor...something electronic, because on mine there is no rhyme or reason. It just does it and then it works fine for weeks, then does it again. Usually when I turn the car off and start up again, it works fine....duhh!

I have a '99 that does the same thing but very occasionally. On mine however, I can turn off the A/C fan, then turn it back on and it will start blowing cold again.

I had the same thing happen with mine. This went on for about 1 1/2 years before the compressor completely froze up, breaking my serpentine belt (on the freeway no less).

I would recommend having the compressor checked: it may need to be replaced. Trust me: you don't want this to happen on the freeway in the middle of the night. I was stuck sleeping in my car at a service station over night while I waited for a friend to pick me up to get parts.

Actually it sounds like its low on freon and is freezing up. After it thaws out it works fine again.

Have the freon level checked.

My heater blows hot for a couple minutes then turns cold. After turning it off for a few minutes and back on, it blows hot then goes cold again.

LET YOUR CAR WARM UP FIRST!! or you risk the chance of over heating and casuing engine damage. start your car let it warm up for 5 to ten minutes and then try the heat. also when you start you should NEVER have heat on right away. the heat that you feel comes from the engine. and if the engine is cold and you are trying to heat it up it will put stress on the engine and over heat. ALL cars have to wait for their heat. that's why you see peoples car running in the morning with no one in it. so when they do get in it they have heat. heat will not work until the engine is warm.

Have you checked the coolant level? If it's low, it will result in diminished heat, and could be the problem.

Heater blows cold air from top vents after running for 1.3 hours

Sounds like you may be able to fix it by flushing your antifreeze and back flushing the heater core. Some car owners cheep out and put stop leak into the antifreeze, others dont change there antifreeze at all. Both are mistakes.

Start and shut off after about 2 to 3 minutes. then wouldnt start until engine cool down. 1997 town & country

Check your coolant temp sensor. It is thinking that the engine is cold when it is actually warm or warming up and is probably not giving the correct air to fuel ratio.
