Question about 2001 Nissan Sentra

1 Answer

I have a 2001 nissan sentra 1.8 with 158,000 miles. Problem started a month ago,no heat while idling but when revved up or driving would have heat. Changed thermostat, bled system from bolt above thermostat and was fine. Now the car is overheating and no heat at all. Changed thermostat, bled system, checked for flow in radiator everything good. Heat comes on after bleeding system then next morning same thing overheating and no heat. The oil and coolant is not contaminated from bad head gasket. Car runs excellent. Any suggestions??? Im stumped

Did you backflush the whole system including the radiator core?
    Is your fan working?
Does the overheat condition happen at idle or at speed or both?

Unfortunately these engines are known for this condition and for head gasket failure.with engine cold pressurize cooling system with spark plugs removed.look down into holes with flashlight after about ten minutes.....im betting youll see a puddle of coolant on piston...usually its cyl# 2 or 3.i cant think of any other possibility for system repeatedly airlocking other than a head gasket.good news they are probably one of the easier ones to replace.

Go over it, check the air filter, fuel filter, make sure your key isn`t bent. bent keys off set the chip and the car cant read it. next time take out the key and turn it around and try it again. let me know.

Nissan Sentra 2001 gxe with code p0420

You will need a new catalytic convertor assembly. Yours is below treshold efficiency in other words its "no good".If you have it replaced, ask the garage/dealer to give you the old one back. Its worth some cash if its full. It doesn't matter thet it failed. They are going after the mesh inside of it and that is worth some $$$$. May not be much , but better than nothing.

Nissan Sentra random stalls and wont start hot

Check out the catalytic converter, might be plugged up. I have seen some cars that will run fine, and like someone threw a switch the car acted like yours, no power, would not rev and died. Later when cold they would be OK for a while then just get worse and worse.

most cars will burn about a quart between oil changes when they get a few miles on them this pretty normal as long as you dont see black smoke or oil on the ground i would say its fine

I think that your crank angle sensor failed. Is the check engine light on?? if so, scan it and get code. If the code is P0335, than you need new crank angle sensor. Nissan has been having some problems with those even on other Nissan products. (Altima, Pathfinder and so on) Good luck.
