Question about Audi Quattro
Sounds like it could be valve stem seals. That is the classic symptom if the smoke is blue. You can get the same symptom if the oil drain is plugged at the back of the head with sludge or those flat round oil bottle seals that are on the top of the bottle are notorious for falling in there during an oil change and working their way back . That is possible too.If the drain is plugged the valve cover will fill up.Stem seals are designed to remove small amounts of oil splash. They are not designed to handle submersion. The result smoke at start up.

Engine also smokes when car driving if turbocharger still faulty. Did you change the engine timing belt (the timing belt kit) meantime? What about engine oil consumption? When engine glow plugs (one or more) burnt then engine exhausts white smoke at idling. Also white smoke at engine idling when water is still present in diesel fuel.

audi oil leaks are usually valve cover gaskets. oil run off causes smoke on exhaust downpipes.while vacuum hoses do tend to dry rot with time it may also be the secondary air injection pump (if cold ) or waste gate for turbo.try to use a long hose, put one end on your ear use the other to locate sound. extending mirror and light may help too. missing at idle could mean time for tune up or coil pack failing. good luck
