Last night my car started fine, and this morning it wouldnt crank. I checked the fuel pump and it was kicking on and sending fuel. But all the fuses were good also. Is there a way that its just the security system, malfunctioning? If so can i fix this on my own. I know a lot about fixing cars but never had this problem.

My 2004 Oldsmobile Alero worked fine this morning when I drove to work, now when I tried to go to lunch it'll start then shut off. I don't know where the reset button is located, can anyone PLEASE help.

my 2004 olds alero will turn over endlessly, but not catch/start. jumping it did nothing. funny that the 'security' light just came on the day before. can that really be the problem?

Same exact thing, I was late for work today because of this problem and not too happy about it. I can't rely on this car and I am ready to set it on fire.

F I thought if you had the remote then that would fix the problem... Oldsmobile has not recalled or done anything about this?

Unfortunately this happens with Aleros. I have a 2004 olds alero and this happens to me quite frequently. Its a defect with the passlock security system. When it doesn't start, it thinks someone is trying to steal your car and doesn't allow the car to start. I have paid over $500 to repair this problem with no avail. I have paid to replace the entire system, but continue to have the problem. All you have to do each time this occurs is to leave the key in the "ON" position with the engine off (obviously as it wont start) for 10 MINUTES. The security light will flash during this time. When the security light stops flashing and remains constant, take out the key and start the car. This will work. Unfortunately you have to do this EVERY time, which is a pain the rear. I live in the desert and when this happens to me in 120 degree weather, its not fun!

Sorry. I'm never buying and Olds again!

I just had this problem and was stressed that I would have to buy a new fuel filter. I went to start my car today and remembered that I wanted to turn off the change oil light because I just had that done so I turned off my car and did the reset process. When I went to restart the car it would not engage. I thought I flooded the car and let it set for hours with no luck. I went online to look around and found that others had the same problem and it was the security thing. I read a suggestion that you put the key in and turn it too ACC and let it set for 10-20 minutes. When I went to restart it after that it worked. I say give it a try, can't hurt :)

2006 sentra with 93,000 miles on it and it would not turn over yesterday. today was told the it cranks up fine. was told needs cam and crank sensors. does that sound right?

If starter was not engaging yesterday could be a starter or battery starting to go bad could have that problem again, cam and crank sensor will not stop the starter from turning the engine, the motor will not start up and just keep cranking.Hope this was very helpful.

GRRRRRR My car won't start !!

A lot depends on the model of the car and the color of the smoke. Assuming the checks you mentioned were accurate and professional, and that's a big assumption, I would venture to say that your timing belt (or chain) skipped a cog (link). If so, it is a major operation requiring engine disassembly and costing $250-$350.

I have a 2000 Chevy Blazor, Ran fine, drove it yesterday. Jumped in it today to head to work, and it will not turn over. It trys to start but will not fire.

First try extracting the codes from the ECM using an OBDII code reader. The codes will likely point towards your problem.
