You've probably noticed you don't have spark plug wires. Don't worry, they're right on top. The Cavalier's 2.4L engine has a cover over the engine, held on by 4 screws. Unplug the ignition control module (should be the only major connector there). Remove the cover gently, it's attached to the coil-on-plug assembly. There's 4 black coil-on-plug insulators attached to that big assembly. You have to gently remove (twist, then pull) each boot from each plug (but they don't necessarily have to be replaced), and then you can remove the plugs from the engine. When they're changed, put boots on the new plugs so they'll line up with the coil assembly, and put it all back together.
The spark plugs are accessed through holes in the valve cover. Follow the spark plug wires to the plugs.

There are 4 small coild on the top of the motor, these are the ignition coils, 1 per spark plug. You have to pull the coils and the spark plugs are under them.

Locate the spark plug wires in the Cherokee cylinder head. In the 4.0 liter engine, the spark plugs are below the coil rail assembly. On the 4.7 liter engine, the spark plugs are located under each corresponding engine coil.
