I had a similar problem with my 2000 mercury cougar i changed out my wiper switch and that didnt fix it i changed out my windshield wiper motor and it was good to go, i would suggest looking at the unit that has a holding circuit possibly the blinker relay for the signal light
good luck

Signal lights don't cancel

there is a cancel spring in the steering wheel that when the wheel comes back it pushes the signal switch to the off position.when these get worn/broken they stop turning off the signals.the only way to fix this is to pull the steering wheel off to gain access to the switch to either fix or replace the switch.

Turn signals will not automatically cancel

This is common for the turn signal/multifunction switch to do this. They have little plastis tabs that are hit when the steering is turned to cancel the signal. If those tabs have worn down or broken, the switch continues to work but will not cancel. Replace the switch if this is a major annoyance to you. Let me know if you need instructions or diagrams.

HOW TO CHANGE THE TURNING SIGNAL SWITCH OF A MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE

Raise the tilt wheel to the upper position
Remove the lower philips screws securing the upper and lower clamshells on the column.
Release the top and bottom clamshells from one another by pressing together where they meet.
Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the turn signal stalk

Early 2000 eclipses:
Remove two philips screws bolting the signal stalk base to the column

Late 2000 eclipses:
Squeeze the top and bottom release levers to release the signal stalk base from the column

Pull the stalk and base straight outward to remove from the column.

Installation is the reverse.

My turning signals wont work!!

It sounds to me that you have a flasher unit gone bad. It is located in most cases under the dash near the fuse box.
