Question about 1993 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

93 yj I'm on my last leg w/ my 93' yj. I purchased about a year ago and have been replacing some small stuff to make my rig the ultimate hunting and trail rig. from the time of purchase I have had a problem with the jeep sputtering out when driving if I dont stay on the throttle, especially in 1st-3rd gears. I replaced the dist. and plugs and wires in a prev tune-up, I also had a crack in my ex. manifold which i replaced, I cleaned the throt. bdy, replaced fuel filter. still having same problem, its a violent sputter, ex. when taking off in 1st it will usually start out good the sputter, almost stall then catch again, it does this in all gears unless i dont stay on the accell. it also is backfiring sometimes when i let of gas while cruising at 2k rpm. The jeep was sitting for a while prior to my purchase and since i have had it its been through 2 tanks of fuel... any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated! thanks AJ-

It sounds a lot like a timing problem.
I would be checking both ignition and valve timing depending on the engine you have.

93 jeep yj 2.5 lift new u joints 31 s drive line vibration is this normal for such a small lift ?

Usually at some point in time

You have to check & correct drive shaft angles,
the best you can, with shims on the rear spring perches
& possibly lower the trans tail housing mount

You have to check the drive shaft for being straight
& MUST have it balanced

What about Shocks?

Did you add ones with the extra travel as the lift?

Did you try different tire pressures?

Have you narrowed down the exact speed & road
conditions it starts to vibrate?

Are the rear wheel bearings on their way out?

How about installing new motor & trans mounts?

Change all diff fluids & go to full-syn

Install or rotate the tires to different spots

Keep notes & make one change at a time

Is the Suspension Bound up any where & not free
to rotate or move since lifted?

My granny gear and rear wheels power but front wheels don't power at all in four wheel drive

I would first check the vacuum disconnect on the front axle (dana 30). The vacuum lines often become clogged and/or broken, especially when wheeling a 20 year old Jeep. My solution for my '93 YJ was the cable option which replaces the vacuum one (try Quadratec). This way I had a more positive feeling and no more vacuum issues to worry about.

I had a fire in the engine of my 93 yj 4 cyl i need to replace the engine wiring harness can it be replaced with the wiring harness from jeeps of other years

I would really try to get the same year and motor as you have. There is some much that often changes from year to year, and engine to engine.

Where does the 2 wires from the horn connect to on a 1994 Jeep YJ

You should really have the service manual at hand; they will contain color coding of all of the wiring. Either Haynes or Chilton will have all the electrical diagrams and the most serivce work you can do at home on the mechanical stuff. They cost between 20-30 dollars US and can be had at auto parts stores.

Many horns are not directly controlled by the horn button but by a relay on which the horn button works.

1993 Wrangler 4.0 Randomly My clutch pedal will not go in.

I can't remember if that year has a clutch master cylinder or not. Check to see if it does, it will be next to the brake master cylinder, and look like a single round silver dollar sized vesle. To the left of your brake master cylinder. check if its bone dry, if so refill it.

if this is not the case and it does not have a master cylinder, you need to check your clutch out.
