2013
n May 2013 there was a recall of WKs with the Quadra-Drive II and Quadra-Trac II systems.
This followed cases of cars rolling away due to the transfer case moving into neutral of its own accord, and the owner not having applied the parking brake. The recall revised the Final Drive Control Module (FDCM) software. However, following the recall, there were widespread reports on enthusiast websites but most users never have occasion to use the low ratio and may never discover the fault. Four years after this recall its issues remain unresolved.
. The company is aware of 41 injuries that are potentially related. It was also the cause of actor Anton Yelchin's Deathh. (a very sad story that)

always set the hand brake first, ,
in my jeep I set 1st gear, it is M/T"stick shift.
and with 4wd if a kid moves the transfer case to Neutral the car will roll. unless hand brakes are set hard.
be safe.

this jeep offers
jeep Grand Cherokee offers three 4×4 systems - Quadra-Trac I®, Quadra-Trac II® and Quadra-Drive® II with Electronic Limited-Slip Differential (ELSD)

ELSD is here

Quadra-Drive II Quadra-Drive II uses the New Venture Gear NV245 transfer case mated to front and rear axles containing electronic limited slip differentials or ELSDs. Jeep added traction control in 2005 and starting in 2011 only a rear ELSD is offered, while the front has an open differential.

Applications:
2005-Present Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK, WK2)
ELSD is in the axles
and PCM controls all that

M-ELSD is here

melsd-undefined-undefined-0.jpgSOLVED ,where is it at: IS HERE

ELSD module is located under the rear drivers seat. If you remove the bolts for the seat legs you can lift the rear cushion up and flip the carpet forward. It will be right there with three plugs.

Four wheel drive will not work on 1999 quadra trac II

First you need to check the transfer case fluid. It may be low or the wrong type. You need to go to the dealership to get the right type. It would be hard to go into more details without more info from you. Does both ranges not work? (4 wheel high and low)
Or is it just the 4 wheel high range that doesn't work?

I have a 1997 jeep grand cherokee. it has quadra trac. i want to put a selecta trac transfer case is in. is it just a matter or changing transfer cases?

Possibly, but there may be a difference in the spline count on the coupler you'd need to deal with. There is a lot of info on swaps at jeepforums.com that may be helpful to you in that regard.

How to shift into 4 LO in 2004 jeep grand cherokee

The correct procedure should be described in detail in your owner/operation manual.
For a 2004, 90 % sure that if it's a quadra trac you have to immobilize the vehicule, put your transmission shifter to neutral keeping foot on the brake obviously, engage the low on transfer case pulling the transfer case shifter, engage the transmission to drive
If it's a select track, normally you have to keep the vehicule moving very slowly (2 mph), move the transmission shifter to neutral, push the transfer case shifter to the right and pull it firmly. Once transfer case engaged, put back the transmission shifter to drive.
It could take few seconds to engage and disengage depending on the temperature and road condition. Do not try it on dry surface (preferable on mud, snow and wet surface). Drive at low speed because you will feel that it's very low geared.
By the way, follow the reverse process to reestablish normal mode

Hope it will help

99 jeep grand cherokee limited, have no 4wd. fluid was empty when i got truck filled case, still no 4wd. 242 quad trac. put vehicle on lift shifted into drive rear wheels only engage. any ideas?

If it was ever towed with the wheels on the ground (not dollied) then the transfer case is probably "burned out" and you will need to replace it. These models of jeeps are full time 4WD and MUST be dollied or towed on a carrier or rollback type truck. Unless they have manual locking hubs.

4 wheel drive not working

sounds to me like the transfer case clutches are worn out. also the fluid could be low or dirty. try draining and refilling the transfercase with clean fluid. if it is still not working after driving it around for a few miles then you may need to replace or overhaul your transfercase
