    Battery is not getting charged

  • noelripepi Dec 07, 2008

    Hyundai Grandeur 3000XG.
The fuse boxes does not have Alt, CHG.
It has a main fuse - fuse OK.
The charge light will go on for long periods.
I check the brushes - worn up to locator hole in brush.
Seems to have enough brush length and spring tension. Not able to find replacement brushes yet.
What tests can I carry out?
    Does regulator give intermittent problems?
Can I bench test the alternator, if so how?

Very likely the alternator has failed the voltage regulator is in the alt. Make sure you have 12Volts going to the Alternator main Battery Stud and on the plug for the Alternator disconnect it from the Alternator, make sure you have one or more terminal i the disconnected plug with 12v battery power all the time and at least one other terminal with 12V with the key ON if you have all these the alternator is Bad. If you need more help contact me please. Thanks Also chect the underhood fuse box for a big fuse marked Alt or CHG OR MAIN Replae any blown fuses

The battery light indicates that your alternator is NOT charging the battery. Your alternator is not working; it could be one or more of several reasons:
1. the brushes may be worn out in the alternator that supply power to the field windings. This is a fairly simple and inexpensive fix for a do it your self job, but automotive shops seldom if ever will do this.
2. Other things like diodes or an open winding could be wrong with the alternator; in which case you should just replace it [and while you are doing so, replace the serpentine belt]. See video enclosed
3. The battery could be bad because of the deep discharge it has experienced.

The "Check Charging System" light came on my 07 Sport Trac. Its been off and on for the passed week. While driving home today my dash, radio, and all electronics turned off while I was driving. I made

Check the charging system. Thats pretty straight forward.
The alternator charges the battery by providing more power than is used by the rest of the vehicle.
If that isn't happening I would expect this message.

Our 2001s type jaguar's battery (fairly new) keeps going dead after driving it maybe 20 miles or more. What do you think is causing this?

SOUND LIKE ALTERNATOR FAULTY, BUT FIRST CHECK FOR LOOSE OR SLIPPING DRIVE BELT. CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE. CHECK ALTERNATOR BATTERY FEED WIRE AND VOLTAGE REGULATOR WIRES MAKE SURE NONE OF THE WIRES IS LOOSE, DISCONNECTED OR DAMAGED.

I have a 2001 Pt Cruiser. The battery light came on all the lights went out the car still drove for about 4 min then it died. Replaced the alternator (the old one was bad) and still the battery light is...

Check wiring in your. I also own a Chrysler and the electric map manual says that it can be the battery the alternator or the car's wiring. Check for faulty wires and fuses, also for a short circuit (those can make battery die in a short time depending on how intense they are)

Do not have model but my sis bought an old (maybe 199l? l993?? or so) sedan. BATTERY dies constantly; replaced. she said in the manual it says you have to drive it every single day for 5 mi to keep it...

do a battery leak test, separate the neg cable and jump it with a test light, it should light and then dim, if not something is staying on, look for a light or radio that is staying on, i usually pull the fuses one at a time till the light goes off, but dont get fooled by the ecm fuse it always draws a little, then chaeck cables on the battery , and check alternator voltage charge, should be approx 14 volts, driving it every day is bunk, or there would be a lot of dead cars in the citywhere people use them only on the weekends, as for the spring i would have to see it
