Question about 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

Van will not start at times intermitent and and instument cluster will not work,the key turns but nothing happens,let it sit for awhile and the it starts it might go several weeks before it happens agian

    at first cranks up for about 3 sec. then does nothing, starter does not turn over.

    the same thing happens to my van exeped the insrament panal woks.some times it starts and sometimes it takes several trys.

    We have the same problem but in addition to that our instrument panel and headlights flicker on and off. We have gone to the dealership 3 time but they say that don't know what is wrong. We changed our battery in hopes of fixing this but the problems still lives on.

    We've had our '08 town and country towed back to the dealership for service three times cause it wouldn't start. Each time they say the battery is fine, but we are not able to jump start it and it is completely dead. The personal settings that you can access through the steering wheel only work half the time. We've had problems with the rear hatch not being able to open. The speakers have gone out on several occasions although the volume could be heard through the headphones. We are completely dissatified with the service. I went to go pick it up this morning and when the man went to go get it, it wouldn't start after having supposedly fixed it. Their only solution was to put in yet another new battery stating they have done all of the testing that chrysler allows and can't find a problem. Obviously something is wrong if they say all of the batteries that they have removed are still good and there is no draw on the battery that they can find, yet every so many months I try to start it and there is the same problem. This has happened in the winter and spring now. I am just tired of getting the runaround. The man at the dealership told us to write to the corporation to try and find answers. i'm not expecting a solution anytime soon. If anyone has had the same problems or can offer some advice, please let me know

As one who has owned four of these beasts because his wife likes to "Sit up High" I can sympathize. Make sure you have documented with the dealer that you have made several efforts to resolve the problem while hopefully, still under warranty. The main computer sometimes has an extended warranty that they may not tell you about and will cause such problems as you describe on an intermittent basis. My last one is up for sale and I hope I get it sold before the intermittent problems with rough idle, surging and lousy gas mileage return.

For those who have grown frustrated with the dealer, you can go to the regional rep and demand to be given satisfaction. Have your documents handy. I suspect Chrysler is cheaping out right now because of their money woes so they are not offering up the correct fix, which I suspect may be a new computer module. As for the battery problems some describe, I suspect that the charging system is the culprit. Take it to a parts store that will test the system for free. If they give you a sign that something is amiss, react to that accordingly.

So I posted the first message on here and as of now my van is still at the dealership. It has been a total of 2 weeks since we've last had it. Fortunately for us, we leased this vehicle so everything is under warranty, including the 4 times we had it towed, twice within a four day period. So now they tell us that they spoke with someone at HQ and we qualify for an entirely new radio system. They're removing and replacing modules one by one in the electrical system, then letting it sit overnight in the cold each time to see if it starts the following day. They'll replace the final one today and then test it again on monday and if all is good then we will finally get our van back. All along , though, they really weren't too sure what the problem was and say they think they narrowed it down to a specific area that could be causing the car to not be able to start. I'm just hoping this insn't a temporary fix. i have 2 small children that I really don't want to be stranded with out somewhere when the car doesn't start. I', just counting the days now until the lease is up next March. I will never purchase another van like this again. They tell us that the problem isn't widespread enough to initiate a recall. Obviously they haven't read all the complaints online.

the instument pack is part of the pats. security system i guess the pack is saying pecus error, it needs to be programmed to the car so the other modules on the system recognise it, you need find someone with jaguar ids or compatiable diagnostic equipment to carry out this task.hope this helps.

2002 Tbird will not start

Try the connections on the starter. Probably corroded from sitting. Has happened to me many times. Take the large wire off, wirebrush the terminal & the cable eye.

Firts you need to check the fuse for your instument light and if it good check the connections to the cluster for a loose connection. The fuse should be in the compartment under the hood. You might also try starting the van and very slightly turn the key backwards to the run position to see if they work then. There has been an issue with ignition switches and this problem before. You might also try turning the key on and waiting a few seconds for the dash lights to go off then start it, there may also be an issue with a circuit board for the dash and this helps re set the PC board instrument panel controller. It's behind the instrument faceplate

WHat happens when you don't repair instument cluster, gas gauge not working, RPM's not working and tires are out of balence

nothing happens if your dont repair the instrument cluster you just wont have the gauges that dont work and it dont cost that much to have your tires balenced.

one possibility could be the ignition switch itself also when you ordered the new key did they order a replacement key or an additional key. an additional key will work right away. a replacement key has to sit in the ignition switch for awhile before it can turn into the first position and then it will take awhile before it will turn to the second position. this is because the key and ignition switch use a rolling code type security system. it changes every time the car is started. so it could take awhile for the new key you got to syncronize with the ignition switch. hope this helped

Starter motor relay! - not sure which one it is - definitely sounds like starter relay tho.
if you disconnect the main wire from the starter and turn the key you will kear the relay clicking, find it and replace it... should solve your problem.

Intermitent problems with car not starting. Turn the key and nothing happens. Leave it for a while and it starts. Have replaced the Central Lock Module, Infra red DAS control module and Radio Frequency...

Hmm, have you gotten any 'Check engine' light? It could possibly be the alternator/battery? Have you had them checked? Check the voltage of the battery when the car is not running, then check it while it is running. Or bring it elsewhere to get it checked? I recently had a problem similar to this, with a Van. The alternator was intermittent so it would work and then not sometimes, and just die. It was because the alternator would charge the battery sometimes and then sometimes it didn't and thus slowly wearing down the battery until it died and then after awhile it worked fine again after sitting of course.

1998 chry. t&c lxi,runs great but once in awhile when you go to start it , it will start but stall like it ran out of gas it will do this for approx. 3 tries then there is nothing ,turn the key and...

I have a 97 van and same thing is happening. Won't stay running and the next day - starts right up. I just read that the gauge pod/instrument cluster which is basically a module itself needs replaced - it's in the dashboard. After removing the cluster, you will find a couple of pc boards on the back. The pc boards and the solder connections become damaged after years of hot and cold weather. The solder joints will either crack or become loose from the expansion and contraction of hot and cold conditions. You can re-solder all the jointws and carefully reheat each one, or get a used one from a junk yard or auto parts store or dealership. Just take out the old one and plug in the replacement and reinstall the dashboard parts. I have not tried it yet, but I am going to. I have also heard that if you disconnect the battery cables for awhile, which allows the computer to restart, the car will stay running at least for awhile until you can repair it.
