I have a 2003 grand marquis when i drive the a/c is cold but when i get to a stop light it gets hot. So i check to see if it needs to be charged and when i did it shows to have to much freon.But how could this be if its never been charged? maybe i need a new guage?

When you say the engine is hot are you talking about the normal operating temperature? Has the Check Engine or Service Engine light come? If so, was the On Board Diagnostics system checked for a codes? Usually a knocking sound during acceleration indicates a improper fuel mixture or low octane.
have the alternator checked. if the alternator is not charging the vehicle is only supplied with what power is stored in the battery. once the battery is dead there is nothing to charge it

my 1988 merq grand marquis GS shuts off while parked or driving every so often. however is able to crank right back up. ive chaged the fuel filteron the under side body of the car, plugs and wires.my next step is to drop the tank and check for trash. what should i do or is there something else to look in to also.....
