Draining coolant is very very easy...........first you're going to want to let the car cool down for a few are going to need a plastic drain pan, pliers, flat head screw driver, probably some rags also.....and obviously coolant. First take off the coolant resevoir cap....There are two bolts that your going to want to loosen bolt is on the bottom end of the block and the other is on the bottom passenger side of the radiator. For the bolt on the radiator you way need pliers to loosen the wing nut...when you remove this it is going to come out pretty fast...slide the drain pan underneath the radiator and block and wait till it is done draining. Then put the bolt back on the block......get a garden hose and let it run water through your radiator until the water coming out of the bottom is clear.... after that put the bolt back in on the radiator and fill the system up with a 50/50 mix of coolant and water..... if this is still confusing go to your local auto parts store......and purchase a haynes will walk you through step by step..........since the coolant is milky i would be led to believe that the coolant wasnt changed after replacing the head gasket......or the head gasket wasnt really changed......a good way to tell is if you notice white smoke even after the engine is hot coming from the far as the light it could be that you are low on coolant and i have seen that sensors also went bad......but definately change the coolant.....also check your oil to make sure there is no coolant in the oil ......hope this helps

Obviously it's temperature gauge light. Check for coolant level first. Then check for coolant leak. If coolant is leaking out of your car, the lower coolant levels in your engine will cause it to overheat. If you have your heater on and it starts blowing hot air instead of cool, your engine is low on coolant. This will cause to flash a warning light on your car's dashboard.

Look on the back of the engine for antifreeze-either by number 1-2 cylinder or back by the brake booster. It is a know problem with Saturn engines, leaking by the rear intake. Check under the surge tank, they crack and leak too-check the bottom of the water pump for leaks, it has a weep hole that, if the seal inside is broken, will leak. you need to look for symptoms and evidence of leaks-if there is no obvious leaks from hoses, or outside the engine anywhere, it may be a head gasket-check your oil for a milky texture, or greyish color. check the bottom of the surge tank for oily residue, and look for smoke coming from the tailpipe.

Replaced water pump, alternator, radiator, crank sensor and no coolant leaks and car has antifreeze, but why is low coolant dashboard indicator light keep flashing on 97 saturn sl2

Inside the coolant reserve tank there is a sensor for coolant level.

Over time, this sensor can get stick.

Inspect the coolant reserve tank for crack or leak.

Locate the coolant level switch/sensor and soak it in clean warm water.

Make sure it's free to move up and down the float path.

Top off the coolant tank with coolant only.

97 saturn sl2 temp light flashing and low coolant light flashing what could be the problem ? coolant is full and the heat works.

If the temp gauge is reading normal, the lights are flashing, and the coolant level is full, the level sensor in the coolant bottle is the problem. I'm a service consultant for a Saturn dealer and I've run across this many times.

Flashing Coolant Light + 1

this sounds like you may need to replace your oil cooler and to empty your water tank just take the outlet pipe off and flush it out with a hose pipe and on the radiator there should be a bolt at the bottom to drain it I would drain it all and refill it and see if it does it again if so it could be your oil cooler if this car has one if it doesn't then it could also be a crack in your head.
