Question about Toyota Tercel

1 Answer

I recently bought a 1993 Tercel. The only problem is, it is missing the trunk lock. There is a hole in the trunk. What parts would I need to replace and where can I find them? I called my local Toyota dealer for help, and the guy did not understand what I was telling him. Any ideas?

Not sure of your location, but have you tried a local salvage yard?
You might want to check out this site as well.

I hope this helps.

OK I have a 95 Chevy caprice there is a hole where my trunk lock is suppose to be, I bought the part to put in a new lock but I need to get in the trunk I cannot open it at all I need help

- Look at the part you bought to see what motion will be activated to release the trunk lid once it is installed.
- Look into the hole to see where that motion will happen, and find the piece that will get moved.
- Use a screwdriver or bend a small piece of metal so that you can reach the triggering mechanism.
- Press down on the trunk lid to reduce pressure on the latch mechanism, and move the release linkage appropriately.
- Should pop open.

Exterior release for trunk won't open trunk. It only opens with remote.

Remove lining to trunk door and look at the linkage from the exterior release to the lock for damage or missing part

I drive a 1993 Mercedes Benz 300D and the radio recently stopped working. If you turn it on, 5 clicks sound through the speakers and then the messege "E2" comes over the screen and the radio shuts off.

Here are some causes for this failure: "E2"or "E3" (Without CD Changer)

1 Input Power to the RECEIVER UNIT (Trunk mounted) is missing, Check with volt meter to test for 12 volts
2 Fuse of the RECEIVER UNIT (Trunk mounted) is open, Replace it with 7.5 amp fuse.
3 The BUS CABLE (gray colored) that connects to HEAD UNIT(dash mounted) to the RECEIVER UNIT(trunk mounted) is not connected or is defective.
4 RECEIVER UNIT(trunk mounted) is defective. Go through these and try your radio. Hope this works out for you.

96 tercel won't let me shift out of PARK

I have that problem too, there is a little square cap on the shift consloe, its about 1/2 inch square if you pry that cap off with a screwdriver ..there is a small white button in the hole. That button is an emergency manual release for the shifter. If you push in and hold that button down you can manually get the shifter out of park.

Replacing a brake light Tercel 1999

1999 Tercel rear light bulb replacement. Snap off 2 black caps to pull back carpet. Remove 2 screws on outside of trunk at the edge of trunk lid. The light fixture will loosen up. Sqeeze the tongs on the square white plastic plug on the inside and push plug through hole. You may have to give the light fixture a tug. Turn bulb holder and pull it out. Pull out bulb and put in new one.

What kind of starter does a 1993 Toyota Tercel 1.5 engine take

That is a problem with some vehicle parts, and about the only way to know for sure is to look for a part # or name on the starter itself, otherwise you have to hope they stock the one you need. Yes I see one is direct drive, and the other is gear reduction. May I suggest, if you can't take it off & get in for another, try to get a clear digital camera picture of it, print it off & take it to parts store for them to compare to the picture they have.
