Year make and model ??
I would have the engine computer checked for trouble codes first.
When there is an engine problem, the other warning lights will come on because those systems use the engine to function.

Vw golf se 2002 engine management light has come on whilst driving and was flashing but stopped, also emmissions workshop has come on display, the car seems to have lost power?

You need to have a scan of the engine done There are a number of problems that could cause those symptoms. Ask your repair shop how much they charge for the scan Our shop does them free, some shops charge. Get a copy of the scan results and have them clear the codes. Than ask for quotes on the repairs.

I have a 2003 volkswagen golf with the code p0106 coming up. engine management light is on. when i blip throttle both traction control light comes on and the EPC light. i turn egnition off and on again and...

It's your map sensor. It's either dirty or bad. You can try cleaning it first, before you pay to replace it.

Clean it with electronics parts cleaner (you can get it at radio shack)

Here's a bit more info about it:

Epc light on 2001 golf mark 4 car running ok, what

EPC: Electronic Power Control

The ME7 engine management system uses electronic controls to operate the throttle valve rather than the usual braided cable. Pedal resistance and operation matches cable designs so that the operator is unlikely to differentiate. In an event of a failure with either one of the accelerator pedal position sensor (G79 or G185), the other sensor signal would be used in a limited capacity with functions such as cruise control deactivated. If both sensors malfunction, the ECM will limit engine speed to proximately 1200 rpm.

Now as to your question regarding error codes (DTC, SAE/VAG fault codes), as VW scan tool or similar needs to be hooked up to your vehicle in order to read which ones are stored in the ECU. This codes will tell you which area of the system came from and what problem they are related to. Only with a scanner makes all this possible, without it, it would be an expensive guessing game besides being very unreliable.

I would suggest you check oil levels etc. Generally these cars suffer from the air mass meter / air sensor problems aswell as coil problems too. Did you ever get a solution to the problem?
