Question about Saturn SC1

2 Answers

I have a 95 Saturn SL1 and the ignition switch won't turn. I've sprayed a little penatrating oil in the keyslot and that didn't work. What do I do next?

Hello voss_rod,

I have a Saturn too. Happens all the time. The last time you turned the vehicle off the wheel was turned one way or the other. When the steering locked, the wheel trying to center itself put a lot of tension on the key cylinder.

The Fix:
Which ever way the wheels are facing (however slightly), turn the wheel a little more in the same direction while trying the key. It will only take the slightest movement of the wheel to release the tension and allow the key to turn.

If you find this helpful, take a second and rate this solution. I'd sure appreciate it.

Mike

Hi,

It is very possible that the mechanical portion (that integrates to the steering wheel lock) is frozen and the only corrective action is to remove the switch assembly from the steering column.

In some instances it is possible to slightly turn the steering wheel to reduce/remove pressure on the steering lock and thus be able to make the key work. There would be a slight pressure against the turning of the steering wheel, almost spring like; somewhere between the stops, the key maybe turned.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

The plugs are wet so its not a fuel problem its a spark/ignition problem. Check the plugs connected to the correct wires. remove one plug and with its wire still on it tie it down to a metal part on the engine. Turn the engine over and look for a spark on the plug, is there one?

Ignition switch stays engaged when in start position to you switch it back by hand

Sounds like it needs a bit of lurication. You can use a bit of penatrating oil (spray can with plastic tube) to looseein it up.

How do i replace the ignition switch on a 99 saturn sl1?

I would refer you to a Chilton or Haynes or Dealer service manual. I looked on my online resource but it was incomplete as far as replacing the ignition switch on the saturn sl1.

Sorry about that.

1997 SL1 Saturn will not turn. lights air signals work. car will not start.starter was checked it was good, the battery was checked it was good as well.

Check the continuity of your power cables leading from the battery to the starter as well as the lines from the ignition switch. You could have a faulty connection or a bad switch.

Won't hold a charge.

I would try checking all the door switches. The door switches is what controls the auto shut off for the radio and lights when the key is out and the doors get opend. The switches could be dirty and not activating.Try spraying a penatrating oil into all the dorr latches and work them back and forth while keep spraying penatrating oil into the latches.I prfer to use PB blaster brand penatrating fluid which will not harm anything else in the door..

Ignition key wont turn on a 1999 ford mustang

My guess is that you have a 'load' of keys on the fob?? Very ******* the switch! Try a spray of penatrating oil. Not wd! Move the key in an out just a bit while turning on. You will need to replace the switch though. Frankster016
