My car just died. I thought it was the battery but two jumps wouldn't start it. I have a little battery power but someone mentioned the starter, but if it was the starter, wouldn't my battery still work? I had no warning whatsoever about this. I made a couple of trips to stores, and came out of one and it was totally dead. it's a 2001 Malibu.

Getting spark? Power coming from the battery I think you meant to say, if I am correct. If it won't jump start, sounds like a cable from battery to vehicle is not connected. Igniton switch connection or fuse maybe. Check the daisy chaining of the negative battery cable for clean contacts. Also a starter relay could be bad. Just some more suggestions to add. Don't drive to far from home until repaired. Towing cost too much as you know by now.
Never did like remote locks, We as humans seem to be getting more and more depended on convienances that cause us more inconvienances. Could try a positive cable to starter to check if it will turn over the starter. Voltage regulator could cause battery not to charge while driving. When car dies, do lights work or they dim from engine sucking battery dry. Just some suggestions.

Once your belt snapped all of your cars power was running off of the battery (lights, radio, spark plugs, etc.), then your battery died. Therefore you have no power to turn your starter and apply a spark. Get someone to jump your car, once your car is started allow it to run for a little while to charger your battery back up. Batteries don't allways charge up properly either so you may end up needing a battery, depending on its age.

Have the codes read with a scan tool. Most auto parts stores will do it free.

it sounds like you have blown fuse to the Alternator.. I don't know what car you are talking about but they charging systems vary.. But if alternator isn't getting all the power it needs it won't charge. this should be checked.

No because then it wouldn't jump. Does the vehicle even turn over? Is the battery dead and you are supplying it electricty by jumping it? If so check for a draw on the battery, loose or corroded battery terminal ends, and the alternator output.

I'm thinking its the battery. Heat kills batteries. You said it wont jump start. That's a dead ringer for a bad battery. It may have enough juice to power some things, but wont run the starter, or the fuel pump, or the ignition(spark). Try a new battery and let me know!

It sounds like you probably have a shorted battery cell. This will not only cause the repeated clicking that you described, but it will also rob power when jump-starting from another vehicle. There is probably enough power when jump starting to turn the starter over, but after the starter take the power that it needs, there is not enough power to operate the computer system....so I have no doubt that you probably are not getting any fuel. The computer has to tell the fuel pump to run. If there is no power for the computer....I think you can figure it out from here.

Replace the battery and try it again.

first you half to determine if the alternater is working. you do his by jumping the car and while its running take of the neg cable off to the car if it dies then you know the alternater is not working properly,
if it stays running you know you have a electricalen short you half to trace down
